one of my fave indie shops here in mpls, hymie's, is on the verge of either closing or moving because of lack of business due to the road construction nearby that's been going on all year...it would absolutely suck if they were to close for good. it's my home away from home. sad

Sorry to make a funny. I know how much it sucks when your favorite record store goes under. Several stores got hit for bootlegs in the late 90's here in the metro Detroit area, and the city's never been the same since. I'd say we have half of the good indie stores we used to. sad

too bad, I used to go there alot before Amoeba opened whistling . I went there a couple weeks ago & it was deserted. They used to have a yearly parking lot sale for used CDs that were cheap as a couple bucks each.

I was there last Tuesday and they were still buying used items for people.

I got the call on Friday that there was a banner saying store closing.

Aarons was the bomb. Now they are gone just like Mayhem Records.

Rockaway Records is on it's last legs as well.

Amoeba is great and all, and I shop there all the time, (I even saw a SupaFunky record there hmmm) but could they be the reason all these shops are falling to the wayside? Aarons was the closest to Amoeba then the others. Their selection became slim in the past years and were selling most of their collectables thru thier ebay site but was still a fun store to go into. There is even less indi stores in Long Beach now as well.

The indi record stores are official musical landmarks. This is truly a sad time in my eyes.

Damn, Aaron was where I found the Japanese import of The Family for 10 bucks back in 94. I need to get back there now.

I'm glad to see that people care sad I am truly saddened like I cannot describe. I know it's only a music store but you have no idea how many kick ass musical adventures I found there. They have a section of employee recommendations. That is where I found many an incredible album.

Plus their listening stations were rarely filled with commercial music, rather showcasing indie stuff. Their used section was incredible as well. I found so many old albums there. They used to sell Prince boots back in the 90s and when I found that record store and realized they had bootlegs, they stopped selling them like 2 weeks later. what shitty timing pout But I did get ther Versace Experience and Yellow before they got rid of them woot!

If Amoeba were gone then we would be in music hell pissed
