re-discovering Tori's "Scarlet's Walk..."

had a discussion tonight at a bar and this record came up. i kind of wrote it off as an ok record (after having an initial love affair with it) but now i'm home listening to it and i'm thinking i came to a hasty decision. much better than i last thought.

I FINALLY broke through with Scarlet this year. Don't know what took me so long. Some of her albums like that and Choirgirl, just didn't sit well with me when they were first released. I had to grow into 'em, but now that I have, they're indispensable.

i'm loving that website! i do want to email the person who created it, however, and let him or her know that the definition of democracy they offer is way to simplified. in fact, its not even a correct definition of the term. other than that, though, i've been impressed by the work that went into deconstructing the record and unpacking each song. very, very impressive! thanks for the link!

Cool. A friend forwarded to me. I haven't studied it in depth, but what I've read has been great. I love the layout and the inclusion of lyrics too. It's a very handy tool!

"Pancake" is my favorite from SW. At first I wasn't too crazy about it, but I didn't hate it either. It's so brooding and listen to the bassline in it. smile "I Can't See New York", "Carbon" "Crazy" "Don't Make Me Come to Vegas"... more favorites. I like listening to "Wampum Prayer" right before "DMMCTV".....kinda sets the mood. "Tombigbee" isn't a bad B-side either smile

i think the thing is the album is overlong and the songs kind of blend together. beekeeper is overlong too but the songs are very distinct and have better structure and feel like...i dunno...the melodies are sweeter and warmer whereas SW seems like an inferior version of Under the Pink.

I have always had a thing for Pancake. I think it's one of my favorite Tori songs from all the albums. That bassline really gets me.
