I'm looking forward to The Eurythmics performing, and also Mariah.

Sheila kills "The Glamorous Life" with those light-up drumsticks! Later, Prince makes Cyndi Lauper wet her seat during "Purple Rain."

BEST AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS EVER!!!... Will never be topped.

Is that show still around? Hell, I stopped watching it years ago, with the exception of a performance or two.

The show is only as good as its stars/performers... and we all know they have been lacking of late...

Andy!... Whats up man?... Private-message your address please, for those DVDs.

And since when are they in November??? they always used to be in Jan/Feb as a prelude to the Grammy's.

They moved it I believe to stop the conflict of artists performing between the AMA's and the Grammy's. Recently it went that if say Usher performed on the AMA's he couldn't perform on the Grammy's. That rule may still be in effect but that's what I thought I heard. They moved the AMA's to Novemeber in 2003.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah I heard that.... but the 1985 show with Sheila and Prince.... P and The REv did BOTH shows and noone complained!

Probaby a rule that came about later....and another example of the idiocy of the record industry and why their sales are falling (hmmm let's see, how can we incerase sales..... I know let's PREVENT our artists form performing on TWO TV show..... One is much better!)

I remember when the AMAs used to be a big deal.It would air in January and it was actually a big EVENT.Remember MJ sweeping this show in 1984? Prince and Lionel Richie battling each other in 1985? There was excitement and suspense to this show! Nowadays,it's a big yawn and I'm not even gonna watch it.

I prefer the show in January. Oh well.

I remember back in January 1991, Mariah sang "Someday" at the AMA's, and then she performed "Vision Of Love" the following month at the Grammy's.

I think an artist could perform at both shows, as long as they did different songs.

Totally!!!

Except Lionel IMO unfairly stole a lot of Prince.... it was like they were trying to make him the MJ of 95. BUt at least Sheila's classic performance was on that show.

That was in my memory for 15 years until someone finally gave me a tape of it. Now I have it on MpG..... and one day if I get a video iPod I can have it with me all the time! (can you say obsessed?) smile

I agree,Lionel may have stole some of Prince's thunder. But 'Can't Slow Down' is a brilliant album,so I was happy that Lionel walked away with those awards, even though it was at the expense of Prince.

I feel ya... Actually, it was that performance of "The Glamorous Life" that led me to buy the 45, then Sheila's full album, then Purple Rain, then previous Prince albums, and so on... My 20-year Purple-history all started with Sheila's explosive energy that night at the AMAs.

My story is similar except it was seeing TGL video on MTV that got me to get the album, then see the PR tour to see her open for Prince, and then once I saw Prince live I got all the back albums.

(Of course I had PR album too but that chain of events is what really got me into the whole scene).
