Curtis !

I bought the record a couple of weeks ago, it's great.

Allmusic.com calls it the 'Sgt. Peppers of 70's soul'. Howcome I've never really heard about this album? Superfly, yes. Also a masterpiece.
You can clearly hear Curtis' influences in contemporary music.
Wu-Tang Clan must have been inspired by 'if there's a hell below, we are all going to go', those violins! And that Pharell idiot tries to imitate Curtis' voice...

Who else got something to say about this album?

Great choice! thumbs up!

I love this album. Together with "Hot Butterd Soul" two of my fave soul records. And Donny Hathway Live and... and....

If you dig this, look out for "Curtis/Live!"

Fantastic versions of each song!

BTW, can anyone name a Mayfield tune without congas and bongas and whatever extra percussion?

Man I grew up with both these LP's (plus "Superfly"). "If There's Hell Below" from the "Curtis" LP is deep. Both are great picks. Jimi stole a lot of licks from Curtis (but in a good way).

Love that album! thumbs up!

i bought it on a humbug and was pleasantly surprise! Darker than Blue, The Makings of you, and The other side of Town are gorgeous songs. Though i really don't see how this is the Sgt. Peppers of soul. confuse lol

I'd love to get my hands on some more Mayfield albums, but all I can find in the stores is Superfly (got it on vinyl) and some wacky greatest hits album (don't want that). So I was really surprised when I found Curtis in the shelves. It's a digitally remasterd version, in a carton box by the way.

A great great album. If Otis Redding was the heart of the soul era, Curtis was the conscience.
