Oleta Adams appreciation thread

This is my first appreciation thread, and i dedicate it to one of my favorite vocalists, OLETA ADAMS. Her beginning is being discussed in the tears for fears thread, which inspired me to start an Oleta-thread. Many people say that the 60s and 70s had Gladys Knight, Anita Baker hit the stage in the 80s, and Oleta Adams followed these ladies in the 90s. Oleta Adams is much more that just a new Gladys or Anita, from her rise to fame with Tears for Fears, singin "woman in chains", to her haunting rendition of "get here" and "don`t let the sun go down on me", Oleta Adams is in a class by herself. Join me and appreciate this remarkable songstress biggrin

p.s: For those of you who wanna know more about her music, and want more that just her studio-albums, i recommend this site: http://www.musiclovers.de...adams.html

"Could it be Lord, chosen me because
I'd be nothing,
If I couldn't sing my song" - I`ve got to sing my song

vh1 put "get here" on their list 4 the 100 baddest love songs, but they dont know shit anyway lol. she has an amazing soulful voice that could get it done with or without the fancy production....

eek "Baddest" as in worst? It's a good, if overdone, song. I prefer the original by Brenda Russell, but hers is a worthy cover.

I`m ashamed to say it, but i haven`t heard the original version confused
Oleta`s "get here" is to me a masterpiece, with her voice sounding like it`s taken on a life by itself, and the rainsounds, that help to set the mood. (i like rain in songs...) lol You can feel the longing and the passion in the song and in her voice, and that`s what music should be about, to make us feel.

Anyone who appreciate her vocalstyle should check out her version of "O Come All Ye Faithful" from the joyful christmas cd.

I will always consider Oleta Adams' voice as one of the most powerful voices in song. She'll always be remembered for "Get Here", but the entire 'Circle Of One" album was phenomenal!!!!! From start to finish, it's pretty much a perfect album. "Evolution" came pretty damn close to perfection as well. I stopped following her stuff after "Come Walk With Me" I know she released an album produced by Ricky Peterson that sounded like it would be interesting.

Oleta's career is cool. She appeared on TBN with CeCe Winans recently (on the show CW hosts). Oleta BLEW and made it look sooo easy. CeCe and BeBe were in awe.

Oleta talked about the importance of Christians not being judgmental and phariseeic in the way we relate to people. It was some of the best "preaching" I'd heard from an artist in a long time.

Oleta's bad. What a voice. Goodness.

I haven`t seen the movie, i didn`t know she sang in it, thank you all for bringing this up wink, Chico provided the name, i found this review of the soundtrack on amazon

Not Worth It, August 26, 2003
Reviewer: Ms Muse "Music Connisseur" - See all my reviews

The song from the funeral is not on the album. I have searched for it for years. It is sung by Oleta Adams. I contacted her management company to find out how to get this song. I did get a response back that this song was not released. It was only :30 seconds of music that was recorded and they asked Oleta to sing on it. I think we need to start a writing/email campaign to FlyteTyme Productions and have them release this song. It is so beautiful and should not have been left out. Obviously it's a classic since folks are still talking about it 5 YEARS LATER.

I love all her albums, she sings the ultimate version of new york state of mind on evolution. One thing i think is a shame is that some of her guest appearances are so hard to find. I`ve only seen the mancini tribute cd, where she sings moon river, one time, on ebay. The next thing she should do is hurry up and release a christmas album!!! pray

she had two hits in the 80's. Dont Walk Away & Lay Down Your Pain.

She was part of the "women in rock" year when tracy chapman, sinead, pat benator and she dominated the grammy nominations. . '86 i think.
