"Seasons of Love" From the Movie/Play "Rent"

I've been listening to this song a lot after hearing it on TV during the commercial for the upcoming movie "Rent". I absolutely love this song to death! The gospel, happy feel to this song, the harmonies, everything about it I really like. What a great song; I can't help but feel happy when I hear it.

Seasons Of Love lyrics

Artist - Rent soundtrack
Album - Rent
Lyrics - Seasons Of Love

five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes

how do you measure? measure a year
in daylights,
in sunsets,
in midnights,
in cups of coffee,

in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
in five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure a year in a life?

how about love?
how about love?
how about love?
measure in love...
seasons of love...
seasons of love...

(female soloist)

five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
five hundred twenty five thousand journeys to plan
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure a life of a woman or a man

(male soloist)

in truths that she learned
or in times that she cried
in bridges he burned
or the way that she died

(all)

its time now to sing out though
the story never ends
let's celebrate remember a year in a life
of friends
remember the love...
(oh you gotta remember the love)
remember the love...
(oh yeah, its a gift from up above)
remember the love...
(sing out, give out, measure your life
in looooove...!!!)
seasons of love...
seasons of love...

Man, I love this song, I can't stop listening to it. I can't wait for the movie to come out, although I suspect that it probably won't be as good as the play. Guess I will have to go see the play too when it comes back around this way.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i remember seeing rent early on when it first came out. i was young so i think that some of it went over my head and i am looking forward to seeing the new movie because rosario dawson's in it. however, i'm not the biggest fan of the song. i think it's corny. but then again, the last time i heard the whole thing beginning to end was when i was 14 or so. perhaps now that i'm older i'll appreciate it more. or not. i'll get back to you after i watch the movie.

now the music to chiago...that's a masterpiece. i could listen to those songs all day. razz

I love this song and I wonders why it was never put out as single from the soundtrack of the play. I will be checking the movie out the weekend it opens.

Rosario Dawson is in the movie? I never knew that, in fact, my local paper had an article about her just a week ago. I'll be interested to hear what your thoughts are after hearing the song again. I'm absolutely gaga over it myself. lol

Haven't seen or heard the music to Chicago yet. I really need to see some more of these plays that are out, since I love Broadway/Musicals so darn much. smile

I wonder too why it was never released as a single. I think it would do well on the charts. I'll be going to see the movie too as soon as it opens, I can't wait.

Me too! I first heard the version of the song with Stevie singing, then the original Broadway version. I definitely like the original version better, although Stevie's version is good too. smile

Yeah, you're right. The song is great, and always has been. In fact, it's one of the "better" qualities about the musical. When it came out, like ten years ago, it was all the rage and someone was guaranteed to sing it at an audition (along with "Memory" from 'Cats'). Then the musical seemed to go away.

Now, fast-forward to 2005 and... viola! Someone decided to turn it into a movie. In my opinion, the subject matter is a bit dated. In fact - where the hell was this movie ten years ago when it was really needed and actually "fit" a generation? Yeah, I agree with you psycholdelicide... it's a great song, but may be the only thing good about this Broaadway play-now-turned-Holywood-musical. The message is too late!

lol I'm not a fan of the music at all. Rent borrowed very heavily from Baz Luhrman's staging of La Boheme, which I do, however, like a great deal.
