Of all the singers he played, the only one that truly affected me was ZZ Hill. And in honor of this thread I'm actually listening to "Cheatin' in the Next Room" right now. Uh oh, "Right Arm for Your Love" is coming on: That's back when Malaco Records was putting out some good stuff. It doesn't sound like that anymore. Andy is a four letter word.

After wanking up-and-down the blues scale for ten years myself I don't want to hear the blues ever again. I did like the movie with the Karate Kid chump, though. That was hot.

I'm thinkin' about pickin up a couple of CDs to enlighten myself. Most of the old school artists such as Denise LaSalle, Bobby Rush, Johnny Taylor, Shirley Brown, etc., continued recording up through the 1990s and some of them up to present day. I couldn't tell you any of the names of the newer artists because I stopped listening to blues years ago. I hear the newer stuff all the time at parties and get-togethers though. Along with more traditional sounding folks like Keb' Mo' and Eric Bibb. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. He hooked up with John Spencer on this album and together they made an incrediblely hip album. i would say it's a hybrid of delta blues and techno. Some of it is just down right hilarious. i've heard good things about his one too. A ass pocket full of whiskey This is also a good album and he's been getting a lot of attention lately since he's passed away.

It sounds like not progressing beyond "...wanking up-and-down the blues scale..." is what may have soured you on the Blues. The Blues form has so many more melodic possibilities beyond "the blues scale". From a modern electric guitar standpoint, listen to Allan Holdsworth's solo on the tune Isotope from... ...None Too Soon. Maybe once you'll hear what might be called a standard Blues guitar cliche almost played. An amazing feat of discipline if you ask me. And there a tons of Jazz examples using other modes/scales within a Blues form. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Go ahead Sista! I knew somebody around here would be hip to the Eleganza Catalogue. That was some funny stuff. It could've double as a wardrobe catalogue for Ringling Brothers/Barnum & Bailey circus. I'm sorry I haven't been able to find any photos. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
