Supremes vs. Vandellas You know how they always say Martha and the Vandellas always played second fiddle to (Diana Ross and) the Supremes and how some people actually prefer the Vandellas in this day and age? Of the two groups, which one would you pick; not necessarily as greatest or whatever, but simply as your favorite and why?

I like them equally for different reasons.
The Supremes were the ultimate girl-group in terms of material and how they were presented to the public by Berry Gordy. I can't stand Diana Ross but she was perfect for this group. Martha & The Vandellas were a much more raw and down-to-earth group. I don't think tunes like Come and Get These Memories, In My Lonely Room, Dancing In the Street, etc would have worked for The Supremes with Ross on lead vocal. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I think the supremes was all about the image, while Martha and the vandellas
had to depend on their talent. I prefer the latter, just listen to their "natural resources" album, and also Martha`s solo debut album

The Supremes seemed like the well-bred girls from the middle-class neighborhoods (Mary Wilson comes across that way in her books) and the Vandellas were like the grittier girls from the projects across town. Martha Reeves looked like she could pull up her sleeve and whip some serious ass, though I read that Flo Ballard didn't take no s**t, either. I love both groups. That whole 'Motown Sound' just brings with it a good feeling whenever one of those classics comes on the radio while I'm driving. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth
