MUSICAL EDUCATION

i was thinking of this as i was listening to Tracy Chapman's debut album. why? i don't know. but it inspired this thread. so humour me and just go with it. lol

from infancy to elderly. if music was the only way to educate your children about the world- (compassion, adolescence, rebellion, love, woman/manhood, sex, religion, politics, race, death, etc..) which albums would you educate them with and why? in other words, which albums or songs do you think would help them understand/cope/get through life?

hmmm

My parents mainly listened to classical music and also some jazz and 'world-music' (stinky name but you know what I mean: klezmer, raï, flamenco...)

In a way, I love this musical background. They weren't too pushy, but they let me listen to music I would otherwise not have known.

I would add Prince though.

Seriously?

I think the idea is kind of creepy; just play what you like and don't push anything. And don't start playing techno just before it goes to bed.

Interesting question ~ there would have to be something in there by Cat Stevens for a gentle philosophical nudge. Pele is perfect. Bjork to help discovery of the art of fearless freedom. Madonna ~ I would choose Erotica for delving into uncharted sexual waters and Lovesexy for spiritual self exploration. Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone to understand the deepest sadness of the human spirit ~~~~~ there are tons more but I really want to think about this. I realize I didn't give album titles ~ a wonderful concept!
Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran
