Damn Beyonce all that homeschoolin...she writes like a third grader. And you know that was filtered through her publicist.

Long Live Lisa...

I challenge any DC fan to play the DC greatest hits back to back with TLC's greatest hits and tell me that DC even holds a candle.

There is no argument there. I don't own any DC and I saw their greatest hits in stores last week and very cheap but still thought, "so...". TLC is sorely mised although I think they would been just following trends if they were still around (working with Lil' Jon kind of suggested that....).

That's the thing. TLC sold bajillions of records, but some of em were just God awful. No Scrubs had me considerin tradin my Q-tips for a revolver and I was like 15. Insipid though they may be, DC3 at least sounds good all the time and haven't started any song battles that I'm aware of (No Pigeons and the subsequent I Ain't No Pigeon made me hope for the racial draft... trade these hoes...)

I swear... rolleyes some of you mofos take "hating" to a whole other level...

I mean I'm no DC/Beyonce fan. They just released a song that I actually found enjoyable last month. But c'mon... they didn't ask the girl to write a thesis. They just wanted her reflection. The writing like a 3rd grader comments are just nitpicking. If you want to blame someone, blame the editor because it's written like those were the exact words that came from her mouth.

ummm...Bills Bills Bills was just No Scrubs re-written. and Girl sounds a lot like the vibe of Unpretty. and i'll take T Boz's unique sexy vocals or Chilli's buttery ad libs over Beyonce and Kelly's bland ass style any day. i agree No Scrubs isnt one of their best singles, but DC just rode the tidal wave of the black girl group tsunami that TLC, Salt n Pepa, and En Vogue started.

Blame Kevin "Shek'speare" Briggs because he co-wrote and produced both singles.

I would more readily place DC next to En Vogue than TLC and Salt n Pepa, considering the launching pad for TLC's success was the condom over Lisa's eye (shock!) and the moaning and ooh babeh babeh on Push It for Salt N' Pepa. En Vogue and Destiny's Child were both hailed as being newer versions of the Supremes, girl groups that sang and were sexy without nibblin the wang in videos to get attention (Ain't Too Proud to Beg, member that part?) I agree that TLC paved some of the way, but it was for a different road than the one Beyonce and the girls were on. I'd give TLC credit for Blaque (obviously) and Fannypack and to an extent, The Spice Girls. But Destiny's Child was more in the wake of En Vogue and SWV.

Gotta disagree. TLC & Salt & Pepa were just as important as En Vogue and SWV, and DC has definitely copped all of them.

Oh, and Left Eye's condom was hardly the launching pad for their career. Their cool tunes were their selling point. They actually managed to pique my interest at a time when I was totally bored with R&B.

BUT I LIKE THE TWO GROUPS FOR DIFF REASONS... DC...THEY CAN SING AND HAVE CUTE CLOTHES... TLC IS CRAZY SEXY COOL... AND THEY HAVE LISA AS A RAPPER WHICH IS SO COOL...WELL SHE'S THE CRAZY ONE... BUT TLC HAD SOME GREAT HITS LIKE WATERFALLS... THAT SONG IS REALLY GREAT... AND NO SCRUBS...

Hi Keith,

Recently at the World Music Awards Destiny's Child was given an award recognizing them as the biggest selling female group of all time. I could be wrong but I recalled reading your column a while back and you mentioning that the Dixie Chicks is the number one selling female group of all time according to Nielsen SoundScan followed by TLC. If this is the case how could Destiny's Child receive this award and how do they compare in terms of worldwide record sales to other female groups?

Keep up the good work!

Dane

Hi Dane,

Remember, the World Music Awards are based on worldwide sales. So perhaps using whatever accounting firm the show employed, they arrived at Destiny's Child being the world's biggest selling female group.

However, in the United States the Dixie Chicks reign in terms of album sales. Their three albums (plus a live CD/DVD) have sold 23.3 million. R&B/hip-hop trio TLC is in second, with 15.2 million sold from their four studio albums.

Destiny's Child is hot on their tail in third place, with 15.1 million albums sold (four studio albums, a remix CD and a Christmas set). With Destiny's Child's "#1's" greatest hits set due out Oct. 25, it will likely push them past TLC before the end of the year.

I dont like Beyonce or DC, but Beyonce hasn't said anything wrong about Lisa. And that's good. Lisa was/is my favorite TLC group member. I like Beyonce's candidness though.

The irony of this all is that even though this is a DC/TLC thread, I'm actually a bigger fan of the Dixie Chicks and would rather see them play in concert any day: those young ladies are true virtuosos on their instruments, and that gets me a lot more excited than glittery stage costumes or isolated dance moves (although I would be lying if I didn't admit how much I love Beyonce's screamin' an hollerin' like a 65 year old grandma when he gets in her "zone" as a singer lol )...
