SassyBritches

this new "inxs" band

so the band had that whole american idol style search for a lead singer. ok, i can't hate on them for that. its a good way to let the world know they still exist as a band and its a smart preface to any new work. my question is if they are so interested in "life after michael" why did they get someone who tries to emulate his style so much?

i never watched the tv show but i did just see their new video. the new singer is hot, no doubt about that. he even has a cool voice and style. it just sounds too much like michael hutchence, imo. he even emulates michael's swagger and presence. i know the band had michael for a very long time and his sound was incorporated into the band but i don't get why they would so obviously try to recreate that charisma and attitude. its an opportunity to show they world the band is gonna be ok without michael and instead they seem to have shown that they still need someone like michael to front the band.

it doesn't help that the band ripped off some very obvious chords from Modern English's "i melt with you!"

Well, don't stray too far away from that original concept. It's not like they could get a person that would be SO unlike Hutchence that it would take them beyond INXS.

Like Hagar with Van Halen.

I thought the whole thing was pretty tacky. Ditto for TLC's show.

Michael Hutchence and Lisa Lopes should come back and haunt their former bandmates. nod

It's time to move on. I hate that a band can be so defined by JUST a lead singer. That's how the ego starts in so many bands

Van Halen
Creed
Pearl Jam
Go-Go's
the Time
Genesis
the Police
Living Colour
so so so many others

INXS is a little different (dealing with a death) but life happens. The band still wants to play, they all have families, hopes, dreams, etc. Even if they want to channel Michael, its fine with me. I miss the sound that the band creates.

I will always love the Van Halen with Dave, but Dave solo did not work for me and Van Hagar did not work for me. I do respect the band for going forward.

Rock on INXS, i will buy your cd with your new glamour boy.

I would be SOOOO down with INXS' new incarnation had they not done a reality show to 'cast' their lead singer. Had they just come across a new singer and put out an album, I'd be picking it up now. But they way they did it, IMO, is crass and disrespectful.

I know they wanted some exposure...I woulda been able to deal better with them choosing a new singer and maybe making a documentary type show about the process of finding someone and the difficulties of integrating someone new into the band. But doing a reality contest on tv?? Unforgivable in my eyes.

That being said, I hope you enjoy it. Maybe in a year or two I'll quit being so bitter smile
