calldapplwondery83: "Ziggy Stardust" is a MUST -A true, classic masterpiece. But there's much more. If you liked that, go and try "Hunky Dory" ... more or less from the same era. I really dig as well "Scary Monsters" -that's indeed another classic. And out of his 90's work, I just LOVE "Earthling". ...Damn, Bowie is so cool...

I'd recommend to get 'The Singles Collection', that will give you an good idea. ' The Deram Anthology' is another must have. Grandma's hands clapped in church on Sunday morning, Grandma's hands played the tamborine so well.

When getting into Bowie's stuff, I found it was cool to start in the middle and work your way outwards to the really old and really new stuff. Start with "Station To Station", "Stage", "Low", "Lodger", "'Heroes'", then dig into the early stuff and recent stuff. You get a really interesting perspective on his styles and changes over the years, and it's an interesting way to kind of "track" his sounds over time.
Just a thought from a confirmed Bowieholic. PS - NightGod, "I'm Deranged" is on "1. Outside", not "Earthling". I know you know that, but I have to be an anal retentive bastard about these things. It's an OCD thing, I'm sure.

I'd say that anything from the periods of 69-80 and 93-present is brilliant and worth checking out. But I have to agree with Anxiety that his Berlin period is the pinnacle of his artistic achievement. Maybe not the best place to start, but probably the most rewarding. If you do decide to get into him, I can't even begin to tell you what a trip you're in for. Words can't begin to describe.

If you want to ROCK, Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars..
If you want to get a little funk/rock, Station to Station, If you want avant garde, LOW. Into the 80's, Scary Monsters, Conceptual albums, Diamond dogs '74, A highly underrated and conceptual album, OUTSIDE.. Bass and Drum or house music but quite unique, Earthling. Enjoy "Oh, I'm picking out a thermos for you...."

Thanx! Even though He (Bowie) Hated his 80's work I'd recommend Anything From then! I loved "Blue jeans" His rearest of hits! Did you see A&E live by request? We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.
