Desire is my favorite PJ album. All these years later and I still feel like I'm listening to a secret incantation, being exposed to magic. My favorite of hers by far....

Here's how I rank PJ's albums:

Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
To Bring You My Love
Rid of Me
Uh Huh Her
Is This Desire
Dry
Dance Hall at Louse Point
4-Track Demos

Maybe I'm not being entirely correct when I say it's not my favorite. It makes my top five and the gaps between the top six albums are all pretty close. It's just if I had a choice to listen to just one album by PJ, there are four that would come before 'Is This Desire'.

Totally different from how I rate Tori's albums where 'choirgirl' is near the bottom.

Mine would probably go...

Rid of Me/4 Track Demos
To Bring You My Love
Stories...
Dry
Uh Huh Her
Is This Desire?
Dancehall

I don't dislike any of them. It's just that I didn't get into Desire or Dancehall until much more recently. I tried when they were out, but they just weren't sticking. They could go up higher in my ranks with time, but as of now I have too much history with her top 4.

Since we're doing lists...

Desire
Stories from the City/Stories from the Sea
To Bring You My Love
Dancehall
Uh Huh Her
Rid of Me
Dry
4 track Demos (Snake is superior to the album cut nod )

What is it about 'Rid Of Me' that makes you rank it so low? Too angry? Or is it the Steve Albini production?

We're all in agreement that 'Stories' and 'To Bring You My Love' are two of PJ's top three albums. That's cool.

I just went off my feeling for today. I know if I listened to Rid of Me before reading the comments in this thread I would rank it much higher. I have just been feeling Uh Huh Her lately and Dancehall I absolutely adore, I never tire of that album.

Don't you wish you, never never met her don't you don't you wish you never never met her.....lick my lips and I'm on fire, lick my legs and I'm desire headbang

THAT is truly one of my favorite PJ tracks nod

It will be hard for her to top Rid of Me, imo.

aight...back already...

so..i have a couple:

Jill Jones/Chris Bruce TWO: I am not a big fan of her Mia Bocca but this album is beautiful..the only reason I bought it was for girlbros. radio..and each time i listen to it i am suprised by its beauty.

Tracy Bonham Down Here In Hell: Another girlbros. purchase (tchad blake produced) and damn was i suprised...like joan osborne's "One Of Us" Bonham is haunted by her "Mother Mother" hit which does not properly represent her musical style...

theres another one i wanted to mention but i lost the thought while typing the above..errr...ill be back..

I bought The Like's 'Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?' CD because it's a bunch of cute girls and Wendy did the production, but in no way did I ever anticipate it making my top five albums of the year. How did that happen?

Incesticide by Nirvana, it doesnt really have ny of their huge hits on it....besides sliver, and aneruysm, and possibly dive. But i now think it beats the pants off Nevermind!
hmmm wat else... Mutter by Rammstein, when i first got into these guys i really like their early work, but as my musical tastes have changed a lot over the years and i have grown 2 like orchestral music, im really loving Rammsteins newer music, they have incorporated an orchestra and on Reise, Reise they even incorporated a chorus which i cool.
I think Ps self titled album is very good i really wasnt expecting much from it as i really only liked I wanna be ur lover, but now i like the most of it.
Diorama By Silverchair, now i dunno y the hell i didnt like this at 1st i mean its wat a rainbow would b if u could c a rainbow in music!
and Daniel John's voice is just so angelic its amazing! every song on that album is awesome, he really came back from his depression wid all guns blazing, and Van Dyke Park's composing is even better. without him that album wouldnt b as good, but it would still be good, but not as colourful.

Homogenic in 1997.

she lost me with that album. i was a big fan of "post" and "debut" then homogenic...i bought it in high school and was very excited, gave it one spin and thought it sucked ass. i did put it on my iPod years later just for shits and gigs but NEVER listen to it. what are the good songs on there?

gosh, it's an acquired taste I guess. It is my favorite Bjork album now, and I think it has her best-written songs.

Have you listened to "Joga" or "Unravel" lately?

I hated Prince's "Around The World In A Day" when it first came out but I eventually came to love it all the way through before the release of his next album. I still would rather have had an album that sounded like "Prince" though. lol

Wow. That's most folks' favorite Bjork album. And I'd say it's probably the most Bjorkish of all. All of it's good really. Give it another try.

Remember that wacky annoying chick from the show "It's a Different World"?

I saw this in the throwaway bin at a music store and bought it for a joke. I bought it to see how bad it would be. And WOW! It is a killer album. Even when I was on my way home and discovered that Lenny Kravitz produced the album, I thought...no way could he rescue this project from tragedy...

But this is a very satisfying album. She has a great voice and Lenny brought out her full potential. I have even bought it full price, twice to insure it as part of my music collection. I would have never given her a chance, and had it not been for the $1.99 price tag I would never have discovered this gem.

What albums have you laughed your ass off before listening and discovered a great ride?

I'm trying to remember if I ever sold that thing or kept it hmmm I know I bought it used years after it came out. It never grabbed me BUT I'll have to give it another listen now biggrin

As for my answer I'll have to say Badu's "Worldwide Underground". Bought it, took it back, downloaded a few tracks, bought the shit again lol nutty I should have known better than to ever sleep on Erykah hammer I guess after the royal asskicking that is Mama's Gun my expectations were just too high. But I dig it now nod

Guns 'n' Roses--Appetite for Destruction. I hated heavy metal at the time.

Nirvana--Nevermind. I didn't think much of it at the time. It just sounded like some average hard rock.

hmm, I sense a theme...

One album that I scoffed at at first was Joan Osborne's "Relish." I thought that since I didn't like her hit single, "One of Us", I wouldn't like the album. But I found that the the rest of the songs were nothing like that song and they were quite good.

When I was in my late-teens, the thought of actually owning something labelled as "Easy Listening" was blasphemy... If it wasn't slightly weird or "kooky", I didn't want to know. I liked Talking Heads, Prince, They Might Be Giants, The B-52s...

I can't remember what year it was, but it was the Christmas of the year of Twin Peaks - if that makes sense. My mother always bought me the best Christmas presents ever. I never had to make lists. That year, she bought me "1999" on CD, The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer, Female Trouble on VHS, The Andy Warhol Diaries (I'll always associate "All The Critics Love U In New York" with that book) a bunch other stuff... and this:

I did a double-take and was like, "Oh. That's great! Thanks!" I listened to the title track a few times and put it on the shelf. To this day, I don't know why she'd bought it me. I do remeber watching a TV Bio-Pic about Karen Carpenter with my mum and enjoying it.

After playing the "1999" album for the one-hundredth time, I finally played the Carpenters album from start to finish. It was pleasant background music upon first listen, until I heard the last track on the album.

"Another Song" from this album is amazing. It starts off like a lullaby; decends into soft-rock; rides a wave of orchestral jazz-funk and ends like an orgasm. It really is that good.

This album changed my view of what constitutes good and bad music. The album is now one of my favourites and although some of it can sound a little saccharine if played when you're in the mood for noise, it's amazing. Their cover-version of "Help" is a total histrionic wig-out. "Crescent Moon" is ethereal and sounds like you're sailing on a sea of stars. It swoops and rises like butterflies in your stomach until it fades like dying embers.

I can't recommend it enough.

See that guys? I'm booking my flight in another window.

I wasn't into hard rock in the 80's. I listened to a lot of soul/disco. I was a complete outcast. Nevermind changed that. Well, not the outcast part.

I have to add:

Diamonds & Pearls

I hated those at first. I still think Prince turned a corner with D&P, but it's got some good stuff on it.
