George Michael download EP on October 3

From George Michael's website:

George Michael Download EP Set For October 3rd

On 3rd October George Michael is releasing John and Elvis are Dead (taken from the Patience album ) in support of his new film ‘A Different Story’ which hits the big screen in October.

The track will be available as a download ‘bundle’ only along with 4 ‘bonus,’ previously unreleased, tracks. They are ‘Edith and the Kingpin,’ ‘For the Love of You,’ ‘Praying for Time’ (all recorded as ‘live’ for Radio 2 late last year) and a Shapeshifters remix of ‘Precious Box’ (also taken from the Patience album).

Alternatively fans can download a video of John and Elvis along with the same 4 ‘bonus’ tracks. Promotional tie ups have been arranged with Yahoo, I-Tunes, 3G and various other suppliers. Both formats will also be available here on www.georgemichael.com.

George will attend the French Premiere of ‘A Different Story’ in Paris, late October. The film was screened earlier this year at the Berlin Film Festival and in Spring at the TriBeCa film festival.

An edited version of ‘A Different Story’ - first featured on BBC 1 TV last December but the extended 96 minute version - will enjoy a limited theatrical release in the UK before being released on DVD .

Edith And The Kingpin and For The Love Of You - are these new GM tracks or cover versions?

Not interested in the movie at all, but new GM music is always welcome, even if I can only buy it in a bundle with music I already have.

Edith And The Kingpin is a Joni Mitchell track. Dunno about the other one.

so are they going to be completely free of charge downloads
like he insisted he would do, when he released the Patience
cd last year?

i distinctly remember him bitchin about the recordindustry
and all and how he was going to retire blabla and release a
couple of albums for free on the internet

or is he pulling a Prince on us, releasing his music on the
net but charging for it nonetheless

either way I don't really care since i'm very much in awe
of him covering "edith and the kingpin" which is a cool ass
Joni song.

Nice!

If anything, I'm glad that the excellent "John and Elvis are Dead" is finally being acknowledged as single-worthy.

If Songs from the Last Century is any clue of what to expect, he'll likely do an incredible job with the song.

I have fay-fuh-fay-fuh-faith-uh... but Edith and the Kingpin is very special. "For the Love of You" has been covered to death so there's no damage that could be worse than anyone else's version. However, musically and vocally I think that's one of Joni's more challenging songs.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Not to be outdone, Andrew Ridgeley will be releasing a triple album, available in selected boxes of Honey Smacks this Fall. The album, entitled "The Emancipation of Andy" will include originals, covers (including his long awaited cover of "Stairway to Heaven") and a 36 minute rap opera called "George is a Hairy Wombat".
All good things they say never last...

Is that Wombat song the same one that's been circulating for the last ten years?

A primitive version (only 23 minutes long) has existed on bootleges for years but Ridgeley has reinvented it for the album he was born to make. The rap break by Big Daddy Kane is off the hook.

k, well here's the run down...

John and elvis is the album version

Edith and Kingpin is actually a very nice song.. kindog jives with the mellowness of Songs from the Last Century..

Praying for Time - This is actually kindof nice.. its just him and a piano.. very emotional sounding.. i dig it

For The Love (Of You) - I kindof consider this kindof jazzy.. it works for him..

Precious Box (Shapeshifters remix) - K, well this doesnt jive with any of this ep.. and I personally dont think its a good remix.. i might after some time..but it aint workin with me...

overall.. when I heard it at first glance.. I didnt dig it.. but now after extensive listening.. its not too bad after all.. (Except that remix)

so there ya have it.. something to get really excited about? I don't think so.. I still dont know he didnt release it when it was reguarly schedualed..but hey, its something to hear, but nothing brilliant.
