You know, I've meant to check them out, but never have. To show how little I know, I will ask: Have they gotten domestic releases? Or is it import only? ps- a few weeks ago (after buying the new Ladytorn, go figure) I went through a Lush resurgence. I was listening to them every morning for a while.

The first album, 'The Joy Of Sing-Sing' was released in the U.S. Their second album, 'Sing-Sing And I' is only available through their website http://www.sing-sing.co.uk/ There is a free download there of the first single from that album, "Lover". FREE! I belive they have said that sales of the new album will determine if they record another so I promote it as much as I can.

I got notoriously few records by female artists, I don't know it's just happened to be that way. But you can catch me listening to at least the following names on a more or less regular basis:
Ani DiFranco Bic Runga Joni Mitchell Hecate Andrea Parker Kylie Minogue Kate Bush

Less then you can count with your fingers. There are some EBM/harder synth pop groups like Android Lust or In Strict Confidence with female vocalists or songwriters. For more abstract industrial and noise I can only think right now of Johanna Rosenquist (ex-Institut) and of course Hecate, who makes decent distorted drum'n'bass music ("breakcore"). Then again, the father of the whole movement, Genesis P'Orridge, has started to take hormones and sports a pair of breasts these days, so maybe he counts too? I always rather think of industrial as a genre of music you sort of drift into because you never really get a girl, you know?

I thought that might be the answer. I know of a few synth and electronic artists with female vocals like Sabotage and Die Form, but they are few and far between.

I have a fondness for Fiona Apple, Nikka Costa, Aimee Mann, Sheryl Crow, Sade, Edie Brickell, Alison Kraus, Julee Cruise, and Dido.
But they all take a back seat to one woman who can make every molecule in my body and every atom in the room listen up and take notice. On stage, she performs her songs with such raw passion and energy that she engages the audience in what can only be described as an emotional, sensual, and sexual experience. Listen to her sing "Whole Lotta Love" and forget that Robert Plant ever did. A million Britneys with an eon's worth of lessons could never come close to the pure, God-given talent she posesses. In fact, it probably should be a law that every Ashlee Simpson CD be bundled with a DVD of this woman's "Live at the Paradiso", so that Ashlee's disc can quickly become the coaster that it was born to be. But that's about enough of my yakkin'. To put it mildly, she can sing. her. ass. off. Her name is Beth Hart, and she is scary. Must Hear: "Am I The One", "Broken & Ugly", "Mama", and "Whole Lotta Love" [Edited 11/7/05 13:56pm]
