to me, the essential ones are the "best of bowie" video anthology and "a reality tour" live DVD. those will keep you happy for a very long time. nod

I borrowed the "Reality Tour" DVD from a friend, and I only got to watch it once. sad

You know if you continue that pace by the seventh album or so you'll talk with a bonafide faux-cockney accent and claim out loud to be bisexual. Happens to us all.

Forcing yourself to be of different sexuality than you are because you just fell in loooove with someone's music (don't take that too seriously). To be honest, I sort of went through the phase as a teenager when I seriously started considering the possiblity of trying out bisexuality - at least suggesting some other people just to see their reactions - because all these cool rock icons, Bowie, Reed, Bolan were that. Hell, I've been forcing myself to like Kylie Monogue's music all these years and it's kinda the equivalent for me these days. So it works the other way around too it seems...

HUGE HUGE Bowie fan here. Ziggy is his masterpiece, but he has many other great albums. Some of my faves including Ziggy;

The Man Who Sold The World
Diamond Dogs
Aladin Sane
Station to Station
Low
Scary Monsters

there are so many. basically, anything from 1970 to 1980, ya can't go wrong.

80s material? kinda dodgy, to say the least.

90s? strong comeback, but some of it could take some getting used to.

2000s? when you've checked out all the older stuff, you'll appreciate the new stuff that much more. he's mellowing very gracefully.

I haven't really been addicted to much of his early to late 60's and Ziggy-era material. I'm pretty familiar with everything he's done from Low all the way to probably Let's Dance. Although I think Ziggy Stardust is a great record, I really think that his blue-eyed soul and experimental stuff suits me better. But I have one question for all you hardcore Bowie fans: What do you think about his live recordings, 1974's Live and 1978's Stage? Which one do you all think I should check out?

the reissues of both are really great, but 'stage' is my sentimental favorite because it turned me on to bowie when i was just starting to check his music out. it's got a really interesting reworking of lots of his old stuff, plus live versions of a lot of his "low/heroes" era stuff that doesn't get performed live much.
