I cant beleive how this totally brilliant guitar legend of the 70s and 80s, has become a total sell-out now in the 2000s!!!!! shocked shocked

When I play Abraxas and Caravanserai(sp?) and then such classics as Black Magic Woman, Samba Pa Ti, Oye Como Va, Shes Not There, Europa and other gems, it makes my heart weep 2 think what he has become now!!!!!

I could tolerate Smooth with Rob Thomas, but after that, this is just the pits!!!!

I am gonna go and cry now!!!

I have to admit,I'm not really that excited about this project sad

Carlos Santana is one of my favorite artists, but I'm sick of all the guest artists. The first single from this album---"I'm Feeling You"---is total crap.He has an incredibly talented and diverse band, but he'd rather collaborate with the likes of Bo Bice and Michelle Branch?! I wish he would just go into the studio with his own band and create a stunning masterpiece without the guest stars. This formula worked extremely well on 'Supernatural',but by now,it's kinda played out.

I guess I'll take a wait-and-see approach.I saw Santana in concert last month and I got to hear several of these new songs played live.I was impressed with "Twisted" and "I Am Somebody".So who knows? Maybe this album has a few surprises up its' sleeves.

this is interesting...

Jon Bream recently interviewed Carlos, and asked him about Prince

Would you consider working with your old pal Prince?

I'd like to.It all depends on his willingness to exercise willingness. It's not telling somebody what to do;it's just not getting in the way

hmmm

in the same interview,Carlos mentions that he has "been approached by beautiful sister Diana Ross to work on something;that would be a glorious thing"

Well, here's a review from All Music Guide that should really make you cry...

(2 stars)

The third time around is not a charm for Carlos Santana, who delivers his third straight star-studded,middle-of-the-road pop album in a row with 2005's 'All That I Am'.Like 2002's 'Shaman',this follows the blueprint that producer/record mogul Clive Davis laid down on 1999's 'Supernatural',which means that, apart from a cut or two,Santana functions as a supporting musician to a parade of guest stars singing pop songs on his own album. On 'Supernatural',this worked not just because it was a relatively fresh concept that revitalized Santana, but because the guest stars were well-chosen and the material was sharp, commercial and memorable.'Shaman' was more uneven but it did have one great single in "The Game Of Love",a song penned by professional songwriters and sung by Michelle Branch----it didn't sound much like Santana, but it did make for excellent listening on adult contemporary radio. Here,Santana and Davis try to make lightning strike again, having Branch sing the "Game Of Love" soundalike "I'm Feeling You",which she also had a hand in writing. It's not bad but it sounds like a third-generation photocopy, which is the problem with 'All That I Am' in general: all the ideas and sounds are familiar, but not executed nearly as well as they were the first two times around. The stars don't shine as bright---the biggest names here are Mary J.Blige,Big Boi,Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, and the ubiquitous and obsequious Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas, all artists who never seem to turn down a chance to provide a cameo---and the production is clean and safe, while the songs are professional, predictable and pedestrian.Since none of the songs are bad and since the guest spots are neither embarrassing nor flashy,'All That I Am' never offends, but it never entertains, either: it simply exists.Sure,Santana has some nice playing scattered throughout the album---his signature,rich,super-saturated tone is certainly the most commanding, memorable thing here----but he never sounds engaged with the songs,he sounds simply like he's running wild over bright, sunny changes.Even with these nice moments,'All That I Am',like 'Supernatural' and 'Shaman' before it,is a deliberate pop album, which means Santana is in the background on his own record----but the crucial difference with this album is that, unlike it's two predecessors,it's not a good pop album,it's a bland, friendly affair that disappears into the ether the moment it finishes playing

Yeah,I was thinking the same thing lol

Carlos Santana is a pretty strong willed band-leader himself.
I don't see him putting up with a bunch of diva-like behavior. cool

I love Carlos, so I will buy it in the next week or two. I'm not really excited about it, but I will definitely give it a chance. I'm sure once I've heard it a few times, I will find a few gems on it, just like I did with the last 2 collaborations.

I'm gonna buy it today and I'll post my review in a day or so.What do you think of the first single "I'm Feeling You"?

I'm feeling you is ok. It doesn't thrill me too much, but I've heard a lot worse. I have to buy it because it's Carlos. I know I will like a few songs. Let me know what you think once you've had a chance to listen to the entire cd.

"I'm Feeling You" is lame.I don't like Michelle Branch at all, although "The Game Of Love" was a decent song. But I'm gonna give this CD a chance,it IS Carlos Santana, after all lol

Does Carlos play rhythm at all anymore? Lately, his albums seem more like songs with Santana guitar fills added in than actual compositions.

I'm a big fan of the early Santana days: I, Abraxas, III, Caravanserai, Love devotion surrender, live with Buddy Miles... all gems.

All that I am is shit. Carlos needs to get his act together soon, get back with some original Santana band members and make some MUSIC again.
I'm beginning to think that I'm not much of a fan of Carlos, but more of the entire Santana band from the early seventies.

been listening to this CD all day long and I love it!! Some really great moments here. These are the highlights...

"My Man" featuring Mary J.Blige and Big Boi---Arista would be crazy not to release this as a single.A cool R&B/hip-hop track with a strong chorus.

"Cry Baby Cry" featuring Sean Paul and Joss Stone---I'm digging this song so much!! I love Joss Stone,so I was really looking forward to hearing this track. She mostly sings on the chorus, while Sean raps/sings the verses. You may think it's an odd combination, but it works.I love the lyrics. This song is GREAT!

"Twisted" featuring Anthony Hamilton---Santana performed this song on his recent tour,so I heard this one already. It's a nice, midtempo Latin groove. Not sure who Anthony Hamilton is,but he's got a good voice.

and for those who don't like hearing guest artists, there are four excellent tracks that feature only the Santana Band: "Hermes","El Fuego","Con Santana" and "Da Tu Amor".Cool Latin rhythmns, lots of percussion, etc.

There are a few bland moments here:"I'm Feeling You" is a snoozefest and a poor choice for the first single.I like Steven Tyler, but unfortunately, the song that he appears on,"Just Feels Better",is lackluster and boring.

The album can't compete with 'Supernatural',but it is better than the uneven 'Shaman'.

Great news! In a recent interview,Carlos talks about the long-awaited instrumental album that he's been working on...

It's called 'Shapeshifter'.There are no singers. No singers at all.I might get Eddie Kramer to remix it.Maybe he might help me with a couple of songs.

The album is rumored to be a 2-CD set and features guitar work from Kirk Hammett and Robert Randolph on a few tracks. It is due in April 2006.

After Hendrix, Santana is my favorite guitarist. He has been a huge influence on me as a guitarist. I have every single one of his albums, and this one will be no different.

The album is really, really good....solid and consistent.Currently,my favorite song is the last track "Da Tu Amor",which has an Old School sound to it.This track would have fit perfectly on his 1976 album 'Amigos' or his 1977 album 'Festival'...it sounds like his music from that period.

Carlos, for once, should step from the commercial bandwagon he's been on over the last 8 years and get back to what he was good at: cool latino-rock with amazing pschychedelic guitar-solo's.....

this all is so m.o.r.
