Digital Underground was a unique rap group.

They built most of their music from P-Funk samples and developed a similarly weird sense of style and humor, which was refreshing since the late 80's early 90's had political rappers like Public Enemy and gangsta rappers like N.W.A.

Get "Sex Packets".

I see where u are coming from, but Digital were far from being the only rap act to mix funk into their sound. Take West Coast acts such as N.W.A., which morphed into Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre. All of their solo works were so deep into Parliament,(musically) that it wasn't even funny. Much like D.U., they were honouring the hell out of P Funk.

Although the tune is generally looked at as comedic...

Stop whatcha doin', cause i'm about to ruin
The image and the style that you're used to

...I always read this line as a crack at some of the silly rap posturing of that time.

Sex Packets for adding a humorous element to rap.
Paid In Full to hear a master at work.

So guess what guys? I bought both cds today and they both rock! DU is just so funky and out there in almost an Outkast kind of way. Eric B. and Rakim are also funky but in a different way. It has a little B boy flavor which I love. Honestly I used to think he was a bit too serious for me and maybe preachy but you can't deny the shit rocks. Plus it brings back memories. Eric B is president is the bomb trax!

When 'Sex Packets' came out, the cassette had more tracks on it than the cd, so I bought the cass.
Does anyone know if the latest version of the cd has all those tracks from the original cassette on it?
It's been waaaaay too many years to remember what the tracklisting was, but maybe someone as old as I am can remember what I'm babbling about???

BTW, I remember alot of Prince/Madhouse samples on that record
