The Official End of VH-1

Well i had a slight bit of hope for this Network when I saw them playing DEPECHE MODE's new Video, but then I realized it was 4:45 AM and the world was asleep, but then I saw a commercial that officially ended hope for vh1, a new show called SOUTH OF NOWHERE, basically VH1's version of MTV's Laguna Beach. Yet more shows about Bitchy "white" kids and the one token "black" kid who spend the whole show screwing one another and then going back to their "real love", but then complaining and complaining. This generation truly is the worst, TV is total garbage, reality shows are all scripted, if u believe anything but that you are on crack. And the Music, well what can i say, truly the worst. I just wish MTV VH1 and BET would just stop showing Videos, stop trying to prove you are about Music when you arent. This is what happens when you let 10 year olds run things, you get the shit that is all over the place. And if i see that Commercial where Common, who i used to respect, says how MTV is all about the Artist and all this Bullshit, hmmm, smells like a sellout to me, i think i remember Common talking a different line when his last CD couldnt get any "mtv play".

I think it's been awhile since vh-1 played alot of music. Like MTV, most videos on vh1 can be found only between 3-11 AM.
And when they do play them on bile like TRL, they're chopped to bits anyway, and the kids talk over them (can't inderstand how anyone can watch that).

I heard that even Fuse may give up videos for those unwatchable reality shows.

Hey MTV and VH-1, take your non-music programming and shove it up your ass.
Pimp my fuckin' nutsack, losers.

Same Crap though, if there pimpin it they will run it sooner or later, i think the 85 bullshit reality shows they run are enough to end the network, or at least a reason to stop calling them a Music Station

VH-1 classic is an incredible channel. They go back to the basics and play nothing but rare and older music videos, as well as some great live stuff. It's a shame the main VH-1 channel doesn't do this with today's music.

I love VH1 Classic. love They tend to play too many things from the 80's though IMO. I really wish they'd put more 60's and 70's live stuff on. nod And I love The Rock Show, but I've noticed after watching it for a while now that they always play the same videos of 80's hair bands that I never even knew existed. It's good for a laugh, but I can only take so much. lol Once in a while, they will throw in something worthwhile like Hendrix, ACDC, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, etc.

I would think the answer to your question of why they don't play more videos from the 60s and 70s is that there isn't that much to choose from that era.

Watching 'The Alternative' on VH1 Classic at this very moment. biggrin

This makes sense. Studies have shown that while a lot of us here would like to watch music videos, most of the current MTV audience prefer reality show garbage. The ratings for those shows are so high, it would only be a matter of time before Fuse caved in too.

Viacom or whoever needs to make some boundaries. They need to just create a reality tv network with all of those shows and move that shit their. VH1 is practially a pop culture station now so they should rename themselves or make a new station for that too. MTV & VH1 is a joke. It's just sad.

I thought of that as well, but there's got to be more concert footage out there than they've been showing. Maybe they just don't have the rights to show it.

South of Nowhere is on the Noggin Network. The only reason the commercial for it probably aired on VH1 was because Noggin is owned by the same ppl that own MTV, Vh1 and Nickelodeon.

The Noggin Channel is actually pretty cool. Half the viewers watch the channel because of Degrassi: The Next Generation, which is probably one of the smarter teen shows out there(as they deal with tough shit like cutting, cancer, homosexuality, etc.)

I don't care what MTV, Vh-1, or BET do. Who really sits around and watches videos for hours at a time anyway?

they need to just switch E! into the current VH1. VH1 is doing E! better than E! is.

In the mid 1990s, VH1 was the only good video channel with shows like:

The Big 80s
American Bandstand
Solid Gold
8 Track Flashback
Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
Behind The Music

Now, VH1 is almost as horrible as MTV and BET. As for the reality shows, I can see why they would look for something to air since the current music scene is the worst it has ever been. Reality shows aren't the answer though because there's already too many of them out there already. People have no originality these days. In television, just like music, they take one idea and absolutely run it in the ground.

I would love to have VH1 Classic but in my area it's not on basic cable. It's on a higher priced cable package that is unaffordable. Hell, basic cable is already high enough.

it seems to me that they are riding the "Dancing With the Stars" bandwagon.

Don't forget VH1 Soul. That's an awesome channel too for people who like R&B and hip hop without the excessive booty-shaking hoochie mamas and bling bling crap played on BET.
