Danny Glover joins 'Dreamgirls' chorus lineReuters

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Danny Glover has been cast in "Dreamgirls," a musical feature based on the stage hit about a female singing group called the Dreamettes.

The play was a thinly veiled story of the Supremes. Bill Condon ("Kinsey") is directing the feature version for DreamWorks.

Beyonce Knowles of R&B trio Destiny's Child already has been cast as Deena Jones, one of the Dreamettes, while Jamie Foxx has been cast as Svengali-like manager Curtis Taylor Jr. and Eddie Murphy as womanizing R&B star James "Thunder" Early.

Glover is playing Murphy's manager, Marty Madison.

Glover, whose lengthy film career includes "Silverado," "The Color Purple" and the "Lethal Weapon" movies, appeared in last year's low-budget hit "Saw" and returns to theaters next year in Disney's remake of "The Shaggy Dog."

Fantasi is just a poor imitiation of Macy Gray... thjere is NO WAY she coudl pull off Effie.

What's Kelly Price up to these days? I know she's got the voice and the general characteristics. I'm not sure if she can act though. But hell I know Beyonce can't so I don't see a problem.

Kelly Price was in talks when they were talking about the film in the late 90s, but her time for the role has come and gone.

Yes, he is, and she's a bad choice for the role. He's said, "If Fantasia does the movie it's completely in the stratosphere." Fantasia has an okay voice, but the role of Effie needs somebody who can really belt.
