The Whispers appreciation post THE WHISPERS
Formed 1964 in Los Angeles, California. Their line up changed slightly since their recording debut was in 1964 with It Only Hurts For Awhile" on Dore Records. But they hit their stride with SOLAR Records in the late 70s right on through the 80s. They epitomized the SOLAR sound working with Leon Sylvers early on and then other SOLAR greats like Babyface and Midnight Star's Calloway brothers as the decade progressed. But no matter who produced them, one thing you could count on was smooth tight vocals from the fellas lead by twin brothers Walter Scott and Wallace "Scotty" Scott. I used to love the way they would break the album down into two sides. Side A - For Dancin' Side B - For Romancin. Any fans of the Whispers out there ?. What are some of your favorite cuts by them ? Show your love for one of the greatest singing groups ever. For Dancin' And the Beat Gones On Emergency Tonite It's a Love Thing In the Raw Contagious Out The Box Keep On loving Me Some Kinda Lover Rock Steady Turn Me Out Crusin In For Romancin' Olivia Lady Toast to the Ladies Say Yes Can't Help but Love you In The Mood A song for Donny Love Is Where You Find It Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Your talking about some good music right there! One of the funkiest bass lines ever recorded is the one for "And The Beat Goes On". You gotta get up and dance when you hear it. I also like "Emergency" Does anyone remember the video to that song? Talk about Cheesey. I bet it only cost about $300.00 to make. Also I bet most of you didn't know that "Roses Are Red" the hit song that Babyface wrote for the Mac Band was originally supposed to be for the Whispers, But they went with "Rock Steady" instead. I would like to hear some of their 1960's material. I only heard what they did from the 70's to the present.

Their music in the 80´s was tight but don´t sleep on their album where they sing Babyface´s songs...I don´t mean songs written by Babyface for them as usual, but songs that were sung by Babyface before...don´t remember the exact release date, but I guess it came out in 2000 or 2001.
They sing a lot of Babyface songs and songs written by Babyface on it, for instance Tony Braxton´s High, etc. [Edited 10/29/05 2:40am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

You know, that acually makes me feel bad for you. Seek some of their shit out. They recorded some of the tighest tracks of the 80s. Indeed! The Whispers were on fire during the 80s,with one hot jam after another.Remember "In The Raw" from 1982? That's one of the funkiest grooves of the 80s,period!! The entire 'Love Is Where You Find It' album is a must-have.A year later, they came back with more jams..."Tonight" and "Keep On Lovin Me". A funny story about "Keep On Lovin Me"...it was released in spring 1983,when Jam and Lewis were still members of the Time.Prince heard it on the radio and assumed that it was a Jam and Lewis production. In those days,he didn't want his proteges' working with other artists, lol.

In the Raw, Crusin In, Emergency, Turn Me Out, Say Yes... man! That whole album is great. It's one of he few albums I can say is a 10 out of 10. And I can't believe I left out "This Kind of Lovin" That was my jam! "This kinda luvin, I only get from yoooo-oooo" That was the jammy jam right there!
