Woodstock: Joni Mitchell or CSN&Y?

Which version do you prefer? Joni or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young?

I came upon a child of god
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
I’m going on down to yasgur’s farm
I’m going to join in a rock ’n’ roll band
I’m going to camp out on the land
I’m going to try an’ get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it’s the time of man
I don’t know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

By the time we got to woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil’s bargain
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

I like Joni's better. It has sort of an ethereal feel to it. Obviously I wasn't there, but it all depends on who I talk to which version captured the mood of the event better.

yeah Joni's. You gotta hear Joni's "Woodstock" vs Soundgarden's "Like Suicide". http://www.btinternet.com...dstock.mp3 smile

funny thing was she wasn't even at Woodstock. She did the song in a hotel room according to an interview with her on her DVD.

I like her version the best though. Did anyone catch the rendition of it on the Wigstock video? pretty cool.

When I first heard this on 'Six Feet Under' (yeah, I wasn't hip to this song for the loooongest time), I suddenly understood what Joni was all about and why she's been revered for so long. I bought 'Blue' the very next day.

The Joni Mitchell version is the more heartfelt of the two.

However, as a more accurate aural representation of the Woodstock Experience, i'd have to go with CSN&Y

My thoughts Xactly! I like Joni's better, but the CSNY version has that "Woodstock feel" to it, or at least what represents a "Woodstock Sound" to me, lol ( I was 5 at the time...)
