If twenty million is truly being spent promothing this album, somone is pocketing like $17 million. Unless the occasional appearance and performance costs all that much money, the money is not being spent!

Maybe they have a long term plan. shrug

I think 50 Cent's days at the top are numbered. The lastest album sold incredibly in it's first week, but people got sick of it not to long after. I would be shocked if the album sells a million in the first week. I think Clear Channel O'ded on him...and maybe his last payola check bounced becuase surprisingly I haven't heard his new song on the hit music station (sadly haven't heard Madonna's either).

yes 50s first single came and went very fast and didnt have any success
but the second single window shopper is just a copy of candy shop!! its just as boring but its doin better but nothing to talk about

hung up is being released as a normal physical single

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hung_Up

boston globe reported WB is spending 20million for marketin this album
[Edited 11/4/05 15:24pm]

Not in America, even according to that website. It will be released as maxi the same day the album comes out...that won't do!

Haven't heard it on the radio, if that's what you're saying.

I hear it all the time, but i live in Canada so it doesn't count. Canada loves Madonna, she's had more #1s here than in any other country.

She's going to do well on a worldwide scale as opposed to an American one. Trust me, with the state of the American charts, i couldn't give a fuck if she tops the charts or not. It's a bullshit system in order to be a chart topper, and radio decides what becomes a hit not the public.

The public decided not to make Hung Up a #1 download track, not radios.

Yeah because no one hears it on the radio, people don't even know it exists. It has done considerably well on itunes considering the lack of airplay.

Agreed.

Anyhoo, I'm sure the album will do fine. I'm still wondering if it will miss #1 due to the second week numbers of the Fitty Cent soundtrack hmmm

Oh probably. You know how big this movie is. It may not be the same as 8 mile but i'm sure it will sell like hotcakes...

And also Mariah is rereleasing her already big hit album so that may keep her away.

Yeah but her fanbase is pretty crazy. I can see them buying both the Mariah re-release and 50's soundtrack just so Madonna doesn't make it to #1. lol

Not anymore

Between 1998-feb 2005 the chart position was determined solely by airplay

But since feb digital downloads and physical singles were incoperated what i notice is that the digital downloads contribute more to the chart position then airplay

The Problem with hung up is not with the airplay its just ppl aint buyin the single that much

airplay is actually doin very good its still climbing on there

She released the itunes single too early on!! most artist release it just when thier airplay is peaking in order to get maximum chart position

The last album did 241k first week but albums sales of all artist have been hit hard by itunes ppl just aint buyin albums anymore. There r those music subscription sites which makes it easy to sample the songs and only buy the ones which u like

Plus its very hard to get younger fans when u r in ur late 40s

The more airplay one gets, the higher the sales will be. Radio is giving HU airplay but not much as compared to Kanye who is selling bucket loads of downloads.

People are requesting HU. It's been #1 most requested tune on Z100 on the noon hour countdown like all last week. Yet they continue to play it like once a day.

The truth is radio is not interested in Madonna, most likely because she's older and they fear losing listeners despite the amount of requests they get for the song.

Downloads helped the charts but it's still radio which does the advetising for the artist's music. And you can't sell a lot if it's not being given any attention.

A centralized system of radio distribution does not help.

Nor does the fact that a label can spend about $80,000/week to obtain a number one, a much cheaper option than radio payola.

So it has to be a number one on the download charts (not just the download charts, Itunes exclusively!) in order to make any progress on the charts? Even if it was, she is still getting no love from radio....yet again!

I doubt that a rerelease of a CD will have an impact. In fact, that usually pisses people off!

50 Cent's rerelease caused the album to move 35-2 on the Billboard 200, so I think Mariah's should probably go Top 5.

I don't doubt it will get a bump, but at the very least 50's had a whole disc of videos.

Not too the same extent. The whole rerelease after a few months pisses me off...yeah, I'm talking to you, too, Madonna!
