I say "Yesterday".

We had a thread about artists' signature hits, and that's the one I chose for The Beatles.

Yesterday is the most covered song, but I believe Hey Jude was their biggest hit.

Well, the question is "what is the Beatles most famous hit?" not "what was the Beatles most successful hit?"

So, I think, the answer has to be "Yesterday;" the most covered song of all time which suggests that it's more popular than the Beatles most successful single in the US, "Hey Jude" which spent nine weeks at number one.

Yesterday it is. Should be Hey Jude, tho'.

Both McCartney tracks, too. So go and shove that up you, Yoko. smile

I Want To Hold Your Hand is the song that was their first number one in the US and ushered in their world domination. She Loves You remains their biggest U.K hit and is still one of the 5 biggest selling singles of all time in the U.K.

Yesterday is more of a 'Paul' song than a Beatles track for me. I don't think anyone else is on it. Hey Jude is definitely up there but when they had so many massive hits it's not so cut and dry.

You should say John, shouldn't you? confused

John: "Why do people cover Paul's songs so much, but never mine?" bawl

Yoko: "It's because you are a talented songwriter. You don't just rhyme June with spoon. And you are a very good singer - lots of people would be too afraid to cover one of your songs. comfort

I LOVE that one. cloud9 It really is one of my cloud 9 songs. nod It just keeps developing more and more layers of guitars, keys, handclaps, etc. And the beautiful ending. mushy It is forever on my ipod.

Funny how most of the Beatles most famous hits, are not anywhere near my personal favorites. But that's the case with most bands I like I guess. lol

These two definitely also come to mind, as they best represent the Beatlemania era by which their place in history (if not music) will be defined.
