'Ness edition of "What are you listening to" is a little different because you can't list anything wack, lest ye be prepared for an ass-kickin'.
-----

I'm listening to the second disc of the remastered 3 Feet High And Rising. I went and bought it yesterday after sextonseven and I discussed all the sweet remixes and b-sides of that De La era.

Man, The late 60's were so Kool!! Everybody was tryin' everything (I mean Musically, lol ) Soul, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classical, everybody was playing with everybody else, it was all fusing together, and some fascinating combinations were coming forth....it was a great period, before the suits started separating things into compartments: "You're either this, or that"...

"Keep a foot in each camp long enough Johnny, and pretty soon, they'll just build the barbed wire right through you...."

I really like it, IMO, Much more accessible and well rounded than the previous stuff. This one was produced by Craig Street (Cassandra Wilson, Norah Jones, Meshell Ndegeocello). In fact Meshell makes a guest appearance, along with Marc Ribot and Van Dyke Parks.

you can listen to some of it here:

That album has been forgotten in the glow of the rise of Nas, Biggie, et al. just a couple of years later.
