Phil Collins- Myth on "In The Air" Okay, so I recall a VJ on the radio a few years back point out that this song was written about a killing (drowning?) that Phil Collins and a friend witnessed as a child...
Years later at a concert, Phil supposedly invited the killer to the concert, and introduced the guy as an "old neighbor"...He then proceeded to admit that he saw the killing and wrote the song "In The Air"... anyone ever hear this? and is it true? edit present to change Phul to Phil ...although Phul does give some much needed flavor to Phil Collins essence.....hehehehee [This message was edited Thu Jul 11 15:13:48 PDT 2002 by SkletonKee]

LOL, I remember hearing this in what must've been the early 80s. I remember feeling such respect for "Phul" because of the story--like, "oooh, what a righteous man!" Later, I heard it wasn't true at all. Can't remember the "real" story...

I watched an interview with Phil a couple of years ago, and he said that the song is about his anger and frustration due to the end of his marriage to his first wife.

I had heard the same story about the killing (although I had heard that it was about a friend drowning). Anyway where are you K.O because we all know that you are the man when it comes to Phil

The song was actually inspired by Mike Rutherford farting on Phil Collin's face. Just listen to the lyrics. It makes total sense. "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Yeah, it's a shame that Phul went from the greatness of In The Air and some of the Genesis stuff to...You'll be in my Heart or most anything he did in his solo career after 1986
