Z Cult Favorite/ KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park

Since today is Halloween, 23 years ago today in 1978, (well, actually it aired Oct. 28) NBC showed this movie made for television "KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park". I remember seeing this as a little kid, and loving it. KISS ruled the world at this time and this just showed how popular KISS truly was. The story is thin, but so what? It's fun as hell to watch. I have it on VHS and I'll definately be watching it tonight. Great memories. I remember finding out about them filming their actual free concert at Magic Mountain for the movie two days afterwards. I was crushed. Anyway, who out there remember watching this?

That was kinda creepy. Ace had that high-pitched voice and Gene grunted like a demon.

I haven't seen this in a very long time, but I love every cheesy second of it! We watched it one Halloween before we went out trick or treating. We all fought over who was going to be Ace! lol

Yeah, I went out that year (1978) as Peter. Little side story to the film; Throughout the whole film, that's not Peter's voice. They had to overdub Peter's voice with an actor cuz of Peter's thick New York accent. Also, for some of the scenes, Ace wouldn't show up to film. They ended up using Ace's body double, who was black. In some of the fight scenes, you can see this brother wearing Ace's makeup, but u can clearly tell it isn't Ace.

I watched this back in the day.All I remember was a fake version of the band trying to take over the real band, I think. It culminated in a concert in front of a roller coaster.Btw, It's been officially released on DVD recently.

You'll dig it! It's VERY 70's and that's what's so good about it.

lol..Good pick, B. I just watched this the other night but I watched the European version "Attack Of The Phantoms". Same movie but different scenes and dialouge and the solo LP music is used instead of the chessy 70's music (lol).
I remember my little brother and I sat in front of the TV (in awe) watching the 1st 35 mins. Then when KISS came on, my parents were like "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS?????!!!??"...They made us turn it so they could watch "Good Times" and "The Carol Burnett Show". They weren't havin' it!!

So my brother and I watched it in my parents room on their little black N white tv:(.....Years later Peter and Ace both told me were WRECKED throughout the whole movie. In between the long breaks, they would go back to the trailer and drink, snort, smoke, and bang groupies WITH the makeup and costumes on!! I wish there was Super8 film of that (lol). But this movie always brings back good memories. Someone on Ebay is selling the old "Phantom" tickets with the movie letter and personal Polaroid shots from the concert. It's up to $358 now with 10 bids. Something about Halloween and KISS always goes hand in hand. (Have you ever checked out the 1979 KISS-Halloween Tom Snyder interview?) Again, good pick!! smile

Paul mentioned they all had to record their voices for scenes where the mic didn't record them well enough. It was just a standard part of the movie making process. But one of them, I believe it was Ace, refused to show up for these recording sessions, so they had to hire someone to redo all his lines. It may have been Peter though as someone else mentioned, I can't remember exactly. Its a fun movie. More of a guilty pleasure like Xanadu.
