blame that on Michael, he rather have talke to Martin Bashir than actually tour or self-promote that album in 2002.

I wasn't really impressed with YRMW as a first single. Very mediocre especially after all the Rodney Jerkins hype. Don't know if Whatever Happens would have made a difference but the fact that it wasn't a predictable single may have made people take notice if were released from the start.

I thought it was criminal that this song was not released as a single. It would have been a surefire hit.

I've always liked it... outside of MJ's vocals. Both his singing and his half-assed, ad-libbed screeching/whimpering make it sound like his nose was utterly fucked-up during recording, moreso than usual.

I agree. This song and "Heaven Can Wait" were obvious choices for singles.I don't know what went wrong at Sony.

They sank his album after clashing over money issues.

These were to follow Butterflies in 2002:

Heaven Can Wait (R&B radio cut only)
Unbreakable
Whatever Happens
Speechless

Actually, Heaven Can Wait did dent Billboard's R&B chart. After it was cancelled, some radio played it anyway and it hit no. 72 and stayed on the chart for 16 weeks.

I bet many of you didn't know that. smile
