She's not schizo! She's still Madonna. Just a new and improved version of herself.

there's too much filler on that record for my liking. survival is a lame ass opening track. don't stop is beat. love tried to welcome me is beat. i'd rather be your lover is kinda lame.

basically the album gives us secret, bedtime story, take a bow, and human nature. forbidden love is ok. sanctuary is ok. human nature is ok. all in all, its a weak follow up to erotica.

this is, of course, all in my opinion. innocent

I think it's a bit underrated. It's a very slow album save a few tracks...but at the same time lush and organic. Very short sweet and to the point I think. It's not a powerhouse album but it's not supposed to be.

its one of my favs from her. shrug

that and eroica..oops..erotica. i like my madonna sans the pretension. maybe thats why i kinda like her Dick Tracy soundtrack.

u guys liked it that much? I thought it was good, but there were certain moments that i kind of dozed off on(though that very well could have been my drowsyness that whole day). I thought Truth or Dare was better. With that said, Madonna came off as more human in Im Going To Tell You A Secret, and Lourdes really did impress me.

They really didn't market the doc very well...can't believe I'm just hearing about it! But then, I don't have cable. Hopefully it'll show it in other places soon wink

no way. are you serious? there's no comparison. truth or dare had much more complete footage of each of the performances and was much more interesting. she was a bitch, then kind, then a bitch, then kind...much more fun and dynamic than the mellow "mature" Madonna. and the last half hour of IGTTYAS i got bored and started surfing myspace.

First things first. If Madonna released her "American Life" single and video today, instead of two years ago, it would have been huge.
She was so forward-thinking with her anti-war sentiments and her complaints against excess that the American mainstream is only catching up to her now. Of course, now that most of the country is on the same page that she was, Madonna has jumped to a whole new book entirely.

"Hung Up," the first single from her forthcoming "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album, is pure escapism, a throwback to the late '70s, a time when Americans turned to disco and debauchery to forget about inflation caused by high gas prices and failed foreign policy.

It's catchy, riding a sample from ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme" for nearly the entire song, and it floats by effortlessly, with barely a thought in its airhead, as the chugga-chugga beat pounds on.

The song's success is essentially a sure thing, but the real question will be how many similar-sounding dance acts will Madonna - and her collaborator, , known for his work as nu-disco king Jacques Le Cont - take with her up the charts.

Juliet is a good bet, since Price produced her debut "Random Order" (Virgin). "Random Order" is packed with intricate, dance tracks like "Avalon" and "Ride the Pain," which are more memorable for their beats than her vocals. Cut Copy is another good possibility, since the Aussie trio isn't ashamed to show off its love for the dance stylings of Le Cont and his pals Daft Punk on its debut "Bright Like Neon Love" (Ada).

And maybe with Madonna's help, nu-disco pioneers Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx will finally get the American audience they deserve.

i know you didnt write this, but i defiently disagree. american life might of been a bigger hit then it was, but it definetly wouldnt of been huge, mainly because its just simply a bad song. i think fans try and make up excuses for this song, and actually for the whole album, blaming it on the war thing and whatnot, and although that might have had a little to do with it, i think the main reason is people just didnt like the actual song/album

i'm glad she pulled the video, though. it would be unseemly for a pop star to be profiting off of that sort of thing. it would be different if the song was actually a protest song. but it's not. it's about being a pop star. would have been very tacky for her to be capitalizing on something actually important with something so frivolous.

I agree AL wouldnt have been a bigger hit. Its probably one of the worst singles of her career, although i dont think its a bad song, just badly produced. I dont think its a case of madonna fans making excuses for the album though. The album is what it is, opinion on it is subjective, just like any other record thats released. As a fan I like it, but i also feel it got exactly the kind of commercial success it deserved, because its not a commercial album, and some people feel madonna simply HAS to make commercial records.

I personally feel its a nice variation to what is already in the madonna cannon, and i would also say that there are some excellent songs on there. To call it a political album is wrong. Its a deeply personal album, and rarely has any optimism in it, merely reflection. I wouldnt say the war affected it badly, not having any really good singles to prommote was what killed the album, and im sure madonna accepts that. I think Erotica suffered for the same reasons, although in its case, it was a far better album that really was unfairly ignored because of the controversy.

I also disagree. What kind of crystal ball was this person looking into? If you put a turd into a crystal ball it's still going to be a turd a few years down the line, just a little less stinky. American Life didn't do well, because the shit was terrible. End of story. They can blame the marketing, timing, political climate...pick any excuse. When it all boils down, even longtime fans like me didn't buy it because it wasn't good.
