You don't like "Bedtime Stories"....that is almost worse than being a Republican. No, atually, it is worse!

"Bedtime Stories" did a have a lot of samples but they were subtle. The book claims she samples Aaliyah's "Back and Forth" on "Secret" but I can't hear it! I do like the Abba sample (I'm not familar with the song but I bet I know what the sample is) but it does sound like overkill by sampling very well known songs. Some make sense like "I Feel Love" (Donna deserves the check!). But I mean, "Can You Feel It". That's going to be really good or really bad!

It's not about the money. I don't see stores carrying both at once like that! The only store I know of that still carries the occassional maxi is Media Play. If I order them through the net, I have to wait. And I'm hung up on this song (and really want to hear the new mixes of "Mother and Father").

Best Buy always carries Madonna's maxi's. Circuit City too. And I think Sam Goody still caries a full range of maxi's.

And Mother & Father isn't on the maxi.

lol

there's too much filler on that record for my liking. survival is a lame ass opening track. don't stop is beat. love tried to welcome me is beat. i'd rather be your lover is kinda lame.

basically the album gives us secret, bedtime story, take a bow, and human nature. forbidden love is ok. sanctuary is ok. human nature is ok. all in all, its a weak follow up to erotica.

this is, of course, all in my opinion. innocent

bedtime stories and music are just not up to par for me. i expect madonna to be a trendsetter and not a follower. those two records seem very contrived and uninspired, like she was just doing either what was cool at the time or what was expected of her. whichever, i never fell into step with those releases.

Bedtime Stories and Music (and Like A Virgin to some extent) are in-between place-holder albums. very safe sounding and meant to either get her back in the good graces of the record buying company after a fiasco (BS) or to tread water and cement the new status quo and strike while the iron is hot (LAV and Music).

decent, often good albums, that aren't all that challenging.

i have a feeling that Confessions is a BS-type rebound album, but so far, it seems like a kick-ass variation on the theme.

I thought those remixes where on the maxi? Was that a mistake/rumour? I'll be checking both Best Buy and Circuit City! They better have them. There isn't a Sam Goody around here (Media Play is associated with them, I believe).

"Back and Forth" is on "Inside of Me". It's actually pretty discernable in the song, if you know where to listen.

Bedtime stories rules.

Sassy...you say "Love Tried to Welcome me" is BEAT??? WHAT THE FUCK????? Top 5 best Madonna ballads, easily. And "Forbidden Love" and "Sanctuary" are better that "Ok"...both album track classics.

And I love "Survival." "Inside of Me" is one of her best songs period.

Sorry, but that record is head and shoulders above anything she's released since.

reading that track-by-track review, i'm getting worried. does she use samples through the whole freaking record? i sure hope she's not out of original ideas...

For me, it will all depend on how the samples are used. If its just her singing over a straight up loop I'll hate it, but if its done more like her sample of "Jungle Boogie" in "erotica" then its cool. I think samples only really work when they are a kind of easter-egg in an original song, or they are reworked to the point that you can barely tell what they are sampling from. (best sample I've ever heard was the one George Michael used of Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" in "Fastlove". To me, THAT is the way to do a sample).

I agree,it all depends on how the samples are used.Up until now,Maddy's use of samples have been subtle and low-key,such as the "Jungle Boogie" sample in "Erotica".Most fans probably didn't even recognize it,lol. The Abba sample in "Hung Up" is very clever...it actually enhances the song.So I'm optimistic. It's gonna be a trip hearing a Donna Summer sample on a Madonna song (two of my favorite artists).

she sampled quite a bit in erotica, bedtime stories and ray of light albums, but i guess most of the songs she sampled were fairly unknown, unlike know shes using massive hits to sample from. although shes basically already sampled the jacksons before with material girl

Yes,she sure did. Those samples are subtle and creative.I hope the samples on the new CD are the same.I hate when artists just sing over a straight loop (Ashanti's "Foolish",for example). It's lazy and uninspired.I've read a few more track-by-track reviews of Maddy's new album, and it seems that the sampling is very low key. Here's what one listener says about GET TOGETHER...

A really cool song with a strong chorus that goes along the lines of "Can we get together,I really wanna be with you...I hope you feel the same way too".REALLY fat bass and a fab growing instrumental climax near the end,the chorus sort of slides into it.This song doesn't ring any bells now,I just recall I really loved it when hearing it! "Do you believe we can change the future,do you believe that I can make you feel better?".Was this the song that was supposed to have the "Music Sounds Better With You" sample? I didn't even spot it,so I would say it's done in a very subtle way

Apparently,"Future Lovers" is the one track where the sample (Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") is very prominent throughout the whole song.

I didn't see all of it, but she just seemed really stiff and uncomfortable, especially when Letterman made her ride a horse (which was kind of funny). I don't know, there was just something very off about her. Sassy, can you explain it better?

it wasn't bad at all. it was the the typical Madonna/David Letterman interaction. the nervous tenision where David is not sure Madonna is going to stick with the script. Madonna nervous David isn't going to stick to the scrip. lots of banter. Madonna trying to get David's goat. No Kaballah talk it was all about the horse. it follows all the other interviews Madge has done with him since 89. i loved the necklace bit and Madonna having David check to make sure it was straight.
