I've said it before and I will say it again. As long as Rakim draws breath he is the greatest MC alive.

I gotta give this one to the Kane! He is dope. I wish he'd make a new album. one of my favorite lyrics of his is "my rhymes grow like an afro"! Respec!

This is so tough. I feel like Big Daddy Kane also was an innovator and he is my personal fave. For the books I'd have to say Rakim though. I have all the albums of both of those guys though - real essential hiphop.

Although the R brought lyrics and a unique flow to the game, no one flipped more metaphors (serious and humorous) in a song like Kane. However, you see both imprints in quite a few of today's artists. But live, it's not a contest. By a split decision - Kane.

Ive always favoured Rakim more, but i cant not deny i absolutely love the lyrical Flow of KAnes, i mean without Kane i think Biggie wouldnt have flow rhymes as good.

I echo the sentiments of my darling Handclaps and bro Namepeace.
Couldn't have said it better.
I still believe that Rakim could come out with something today and be relevant.

I never thought of Kane being any competition to Rakim.

Rakim is far surperior.

BIG DADDY KANE...although I really dig Rakim, too.

kne's a legend no doubt but can he fuck with this....

Reachin for the city of Mecca, visit Medina
Visions of Neffertiti then I seen a
Mind keeps traveling, I'll be back after I
stop and think about the brothers and sisters in Africa
Return the thought through the eye of a needle
For miles I thought and I just brought the people
Under the dark skies, on a dark side
Not only there, but right here's an apartheid
So now is the time for us to react
Take a trip through the mind and when you get back
Understand your third eye seen all of that
It ain't where you're from, it's where you're at
Even the (ghetto)

Though I love the Kane, Rakim was so ahead of his time, it's scary.

That's how I feel when I listen to Paid In Full. To make it even scarier, rhymes like "Paid In Full" and "My Melody" were actually old routines he used to perform earlier than `86.... eek Rakim used to be named Kid Wizard.
