WEEZER Does anyone else dig them?? I think they are a great band and they put on an awesome live show. I saw them last week with the Foo Fighters and they were both amazing! I think Rivers Cuomo gets a bad rap for being so "eccentric", but I think he is a very underrated songwriter.

I like them a lot, although I don't really like their new album.
Pinkerton is my favorite by them (at the moment anyway) and the blue album is also really goo. I like them because you can really hear how they're influenced by the Descendents, who are one of my favorite old California punk bands. Sorry that that particular album sent Rivers into seclusion for a whole year Many people love it. Smooches;)

Cheap Trick is great example of the rock/pop synergy at it's best. Weezer doesn't rock hard enough for me to consider them anything but ok. I've seen the foo fighters live and they kick ass though [Edited 10/14/05 14:40pm]

I think they are rocking just as much as they should be. Anything harder might damage their pocket protectors Foo Fighters are awesome live Smooches;)

They are like the Descendents "lite" and I can't even believe I would even listen to something of that description, but I do. They are like when the Descendents went all poplike and the hardcore fans called them soft. Usually I hate it when a band is REALLY obviously influenced by another that came before them, but somehow with Weezer, it works. For me anyway. But their latest album? They went TOO pop for me and now they sound like they're trying to be like something they think the kids want to hear. Like Blink 182 or some shit like that. I was really disappointed. Having said that, I just put Pinkerton on my ipod yesterday. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Pinkerton, my God, that's a very well written album. And the production (or lack thereof) was great. And Blue paved the way for a handful of imitators in the late 90s and today.
But, Make Believe has to be the worst crap I've heard this year. I haunt the Weezer message board and posters are up in arms over the musical path Rivers Cuomo has taken the past couple of years. I'm starting to agree with them. But when he wants to, Rivers Cuomo can craft a pop song similar to that of Brian Wilson and Ric Ocasek. Thats only when he wants to.

I think they're pretty great, but I haven't followed them as closely from "Maladroit" on. I don't even have the new one.

I've played their Blue album alot in the last couple of months and I don't thik there's a bad song on there. Great record. BTW I think I must be the only person in the world to be disappointed seeing the Foos. Started to sound like the same song being played over and over after awhile.

I think the thing is, Weezer's first two albums, and even the Green album to a lesser extent were such classics. Those first two albums are just about flawless. And with the green album, people were just so glad to see Weezer back on the scene, and with two kickass singles.
Maladroit and Make Believe could only be disappointing after that. Both these albums have their moments and 3 or 4 really great songs. It's just that they're chock with filler. And "Beverly Hills" is just such a sell out, simple pop song. Reading some interview with Rivers around the time the album came out, he kinda makes you think that he doesn't really care about music, and his heart isn't in it anymore. For the new album, check out the songs "This is Such a Pity" and the very last song on there. Those are great.

I.LOVE.WEEZER!!!!!
And I was almost sick with sadness when I found out they were touring with my OTHER favorite rock band, the Foo Fighters. I couldn't believe it, it was like a dream come true, BOTH of my most fave bands EVER on tour together...and I couldn't go. The Blue album is my fave, with Pinkerton second...they're just incredible, man
