Most tacky Prince imitators In the UK we had this singer called Princess who had a hit called Say I am your number one, shes a chick but there was a Prince like beat to the song. It hit in 1986 and was pretty bad.
Another one Ready for the World, their song was quite tacky and went away. And I found the Mary Jane girls in my house about a vagina (Is that Vanity 6 or what) Do y'all know any more. I found a man who looked like Prince in the late 80's but understand he was a producer called Narada Michael Walden whose June 88 ad for his new album called "Divine Emotion" complete with semi naked Walden clasping his hands is a blatant Lovesexy ripoff! Theres even Princey style lettering on the ad. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I like the Princess song "Say I'm Your Number One".I don't think it has a Prince-like beat at all.
But I agree with you,Ready For The World were heavily influenced by Prince.Their first two albums sound alot like Prince's music from 1982/83.

I don't think The Mary Jane Girls could be considered Prince imitators.Sure,Prince's female group (Vanity 6) came first, but The Mary Jane Girls had a different sound.Their songs weren't overtly sexual or sleazy.

I agree completely, DavidEye. I have that song on MP3; it's one of the few Stock-Aitken-Waterman productions I actually like.

Theres even Princey style lettering on the ad. Shalamar (The revamped version of the group) had a song called "Dancing In The Sheets". It sounded almost identical to "1999". The Bar-Kays blatantly ripped off the MPLS sound with "Hit And Run"(Sounded like the Time) and "Sex O Matic"(Could've been on the Controversy album). But the worst had to be this group called Ebonee Webb. Not only did they rip off the music ("Too Hot To Be Cool") But they actually tried to dress and wear their hair like Prince. Especially that funny looking lead singer who tried to wear his doo like Prince on the Controversy album cover. He tried to make his pompadour cover one eye. It looked absolutely ridiculous. There also was a guy named Nikki Sixx(Not the Motley Crue guitarist) who had a song called "If You Wanna" He wore his hair like Prince did on the cover of "I Wanna Be Your Lover" He even tried to hold his guitar and move like Prince in the video. Their are more but that's all I can think of right now.

Does anybody remember the Living Colour sketch with Damon Wayans when he imitated Prince in some ad with two butch black guys. And hes wearing a bandanna and stuf saying things like "Like the time Sheila E tipped creeeaaamm! all over me" and the other two are getting freaked out, and one goes how do u turn a girl on. Prince started singing (to the melody of Kiss)
Bet ya bottom dollar, that I can make u feel alright (ooh) And if u make em holler (yaaahooo!) Just stretch your teeth and hold on tight, I gotta hole in my JEEEAAAANNS! (Turns around and two butch guys run off) Come on y'all (owwww!) THAT WAS FUCKING FUNNY! 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Prince is definitely one of the most influential people of the last 25 yrs. I can't believe how many people (badly, I must add) want to look like, just be the guy. Amazing..
