Singer Boy George Arrested on Drug Charge

NEW YORK - Singer Boy George was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and making a fake police report after he called 911 early Friday and falsely said his home had been burglarized, police said.

The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, called police from a Little Italy apartment around 3:14 a.m. and reported a burglary, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski, a police spokesman.

Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a small amount of cocaine next to a computer, police said. A woman in the apartment said there was more cocaine around and police were continuing to investigate.

A former spokesman for O'Dowd's autobiographical musical "Taboo," which closed last year, said he did not know whether the singer had a spokesman or lawyer

I for one am disappointed but not surprised. George's status as a DJ is going on the rise in the United States, and clubland has alot of access to alot of drugs. On the other hand, given what he went through back in the 80s with smack, you would think he'd be drug free

I hope everything turns out good in the long run. George is a very talented fellow.

he called that there was a burglary, and when police get there, they found nothing but coke(granted, a small amount of coke, but still coke). This would hint that George was paranoid, which is a side effect of cocaine(in some people). He probably was snorting some blow.

Then again, maybe he wasnt. Maybe he was drunk or something and the chick that was chilling with him happened to bring coke with her. Who knows. We'll wait and see I guess

I honestly don't think that possession of cocaine should be a criminal offence. I think that dealing it should - but I really don't see whom it's hurting to take the drug recreationally if it's already in your possession.

Agree...in fact, I think all drugs should be legal like they were during the 1920´s...the government could get a lot of tax money from that and you wouldn´t have so many junkies and drug related crimes. But back to the topic.I don´t care if he´s using drugs, that´s his own business, I´d be more surprised if he weren´t using any drugs, but I´m wondering how he can afford an apartment in Manhattan, let alone make an autobiographical musical.
Is he THAT successful as a DJ ? More talented and more relevant musicians from the 80´s are close to being broke these days, and he, of all people, is still around ? With those two or three hits he had in the 80´s ?
That´s the biggest surprise to me, because the last time I heard of him was in Cuxhaven/Germany, a ridiculously small "show", and not much ever since.
I´m merely asking because of a pop cultural interest , I´m not condemning him.
So, how did he manage to stay afloat ?

i totally agree with u. well except heroin. but the gov will NEVER make any drug legal, not even marijuana, cuz it would make them look like asses. its too late, too many years and too much money has gone into to this war on drugs mess thats its no turning back. the gov knows it can get crazy paid from drugs, but theres no way for them to justify it yet other than we wanna get paid

though in the case of actual news stories from an actual news wire (such as this story), they'd just have to deal. AP ain't exactly weekly world news.

simple. he realized that he needed to find another occupation since the singing thing wasnt enough anymore, so he chose djing. He's actually climbing up in the DJ world. George is a resident dj at god knows what club in NYC, and he tours the country regularly. In fact, back in 04, he was in Houston playing at some really popular club.

also, it helps that he did successful reunion tours with Culture Club and that he was a spokesperson for MAC cosmetics.

Also, he formed a fashion label,B-Rude, though i dont know how much he makes off of it considering that it's only available in NYC.
