okay,I just listened to the radio edit about a hundred times lol and here is my review...

"Hung Up" is a good song. Not one of her best singles, but a good song nonetheless. This is the most commercial single she has released in a long time. The Abba sample is a nice touch. The song has a strong chorus and the verses are great, but unfortunately, the bridge is really weak (the part that begins with "I can't keep on waiting for you").Musically, the song is retro-sounding...very New Wave...sounding as if it is from 1985.It'll be a massive hit in the clubs, and on the dance music charts. But I'm not sure how the mainstream will like this.Anyway,if I have to grade this song,I would give it a "B".

btw, to have Madonna working with Jacques Lu Cont for this album was my wish EXACTLY.. I could probably find it in writing on the org's archives.

i like it too. but i wish she'd split things and gone partly rock as well. i really loved the Headcleanr remixes from the last batch.

Earlier this year, there were rumors that she was gonna make a rock album.I was really excited about that.Too bad it's not gonna happen after all.Don't get me wrong,I love dance music from Maddy, but I really think she should do a rock album.Maybe next time?

So the single is good? I have only heard like what ever was on the commercial...and on her site. Someone passed off to me a 1.23 sec sample of the song cut up with slower and faster versions all chopped up into on piece. I have heard "remixes" but they don't sound like remixes to me.

Where/when will I be able to hear this next week? Is the video and song premireing at the same time? I wanna set the vcr and get it as I'll probably be at work.

It's so nice to finally hear the complete song.I was getting tired of those silly "clips"...lol....just the other day,I heard a really messy clip that sounds like it was cut and pasted lol a fan took all the existing clips and created one long clip, but it was really sloppy and messy,lol....parts of it sounded like it was skipping.

The song debuts on Monday (October 17),it will be on radio everywhere. The video is due around October 24.

Good analysis, David. You really don't like the bridge? That "I can't keep on waiting" is a great build to the chorus, probably my favorite part of the song. The section that feels a bit lazy to me is the repetitive "Time goes by." I have to say, as a single I think it's one of her best in years. I like it a lot, but I hope the album as a whole has better things to offer. That New Wave sound is exactly why I like it so much. It's a hot, hot, hot dance single! This song is also ripe for some really ace remixes. All in all, I'm happy to be this excited over a new Madonna release. It's a been a bit since that's happened.

I'd rate it an A-.

Yeah,I really hope the album has better things to offer. This song is cool, but I hope the other songs sound totally different.I wouldn't want a whole album that sounds like "Hung Up".

Agreed. It's a good single, but it's that sample that really makes it worthwhile.

I love the sample. This is the correct way to use a sample.....you use it to enhance the song.

I think it's her best single since Ray of Light easily. I agree that it's a little reigned-in sounding...it'll sound even better in extended mixes.

I think US hit potential is all going to depend on the video. If she's able to connect with a video that plays against her foxhunt makeover, it'll sell. If there's even a trace of that, it'll sink because it just doesn't fit the vibe of the song.
[Edited 10/13/05 21:20pm]

I hope that if she's dancing in this video, she hired a choreographer. I really DON'T want to see anymore of that ROL/Beautiful Stranger/NRM/American Pie dancing.... it looks like Ellen on Seinfeld's "little kicks" dance.

I've done a complete 180 on this song. Every time I heard a clip on the net or on TV, I wasn't thrilled with it. But I really love it now. I can give myself permission to get excited about this now.

It's certainly her most dancey lead off for an album in a LONG time.

nod

I'm really liking it. I am worried about it's top 40 potential though. And, it's clearly too out there for Adult Contemporary, so if top 40 doesn't bite, the song is going to disappear quickly.

Whatevs, I just can't wait to dance to this at the bar!!!

I'm a little bit confused. Aren't you one of the moderators who gets upset about illegal downloads. I definately understand that but isn't this something different?

Let's face it. It's pretty much a given we are all going to buy the CD, right? Hell, I want to buy a proper verison of the MP3 on Intunes that will be eaiser to play!
My offical thought on the song is that it is really fun and that is when Madonna is great (althouogh serious and heartfelt Madonna isn't bad either). My only problem is possibly this verison. THere are a lot of great things happening in the song but I think it's edited funny. I hope the album verison is stronger. I honestly wonder if the verison that I'm listening to is the true radio verison.

1) i dont get upset...im protecting ben's interest...posting actual links to downloads can get ben into a heap of trouble..its evidence that he is allowing illegal filesharing to take place...

which

2) is the reason im always telling people to use orgnotes to share links..no paper trail...no foul...

3) im all for sharing leaked radio crap quality of tracks...cause in the end people will buy the real deal...im against cd quality trading that takes away from the artist.
