Senor Coconut!

I love this guy and his band! Originally he is Atom Heart (I think)

Basically he puts all kinds of music like Beat It and Smooth Operator and turns them into fiesta/salsa songs. He did an entire album of Kraftwerk songs. And it's not corny sounding or anything of the sort...yes it's slightly humorous...however it is very professional sounding and fresh esp his version of Riders on the Storm.

They have a couple songs off of that Kraftwerk cover album on Rhapsody, which i just listened to, it's fun and all, but NOONE should ever, Ever, EVER, play around with Kraftwerk grooves! That's like dipping a cross in urine and calling it art or somethin'! no no no!

What's really funny this guy's on the Emperor Norton Records. falloff Nice to see they have a since of humor. i read this guy's mini bio online and apparantly he's really a producer from germany who started going under this psuedonym after moving to Brazil.

Anyways, i don't care who you are, Kraftwerk is off limits. i've just recently forgiven Afrika Bambaataa for Planet Rock! hmph!

This guy is huge in Europe. His other moniker is Atom Heart ...big electronic ambient/downtempo. He plays the Big Chill every year as Senor Coconut.

While I agree on the Kraftwerk statements...I was introduced to him by a HUGE Kraftwerk fan. And because of that, I feel sometimes it's ok to play around with brilliance...if you are brilliant yourself.

He also makes music under several other monikers, like Lassigue Bendthaus which is his EBM project. However, it's kind of depressing that he gets most notice for a humour project such as this.

But Senor Coconut is good. Sometimes one just happens on something that is not only magical...but that people like. Everyone I have played him for has either wanted a copy or sought out a copy.

shrug

I'd still say though that one of the worst records I have ever purchased has been LB's (same guy) "Pop Artificielle" where he makes sort of IDM covers of other people's songs, including Prince's "The Future". I like some of the Atom Heart materialn and the EBM records were fine as well (sans the terrible vocals), maybe he just has far too many projects. Senor Coconut, well... I just think it's one of those things [nobody has a real opinion about in the end. I mean, does it touch your heart in some special way? Is it inventive? Or is it just something that sounds a lot of fun on drugs? My choice is the last alternative.

I think I heard a different remake of Princes he did...I wanna say Erotic City...but it may have been the future. It was really creepy. I liked it though.

I think he found a better outlet in which to do what he wants to do...ala Coconut. And NO I don't think it's really "it's sounds like a lot of fun on drugs" as being the draw of Senor Coconut. If that were true, he would be as popular as he is in the circles that think his music is really good.
