Oh yeah!! That Documentary was pretty tight! Just for the footage i've never saw before! horns if anyone knows how i can get my hands on some of that, orgnote me! biggrin

i did have a couple of gripes with it, like TRUE funkateers such as members of Fishbone, Weapon of Choice and 24-7 spyz not being interviewed for this doc. IMO their opinions are just as valid as the rappers, probably more. At times the way it was put together seemed a bit amatuerish, but hey, i can't hate on it, since they were showing mad love to the P! horns horns horns

i think George described best the realm they entered when creating that funkadelic sound. OOGA BOOGA!! headbang That sums it up perfectly! evillol

BOO!!

I kinda was wondering about the rappers, too. Ice Cube really had nothing to add and plus, it don't take a love of P Funk to use the hell out of a sample. I kinda wish folks like Prince couldn't be interviewed. The cartoon character was on my last damn nerve.

I don't get it. The show did not air on the West Coast. I looked at the Web site and it says it will be on Saturday night. Anyone else experience this as well?

PBS sets up programming for regional affiliates. KCET is the affiliate in LA Click the SCHEDULE and you'll get broadcast info. I'm in LA (kinda) and it says:

CHANNEL 28
Independent Lens: Parliament Funkadelic: One Nation Under a Groove
Saturday, October 15, 10:00pm
“Parliament Funkadelic: One Nation Under a Groove.”
Cool just like PFunk show. Nothin; starts until 10 PM.

I dug it 'tho i was up for more performance footage. Jeanette Washington, was looking good. Nona Hendryx is still sexy for her age.
Seeing Glen Goins...man... Chuutch! George spaced out on a tab or two with a old hard schiltz malt liquor bull can in hand was funny as hell.

I found out about it by accident. It was really fascinating to watch. I loved to see the Hall of Fame give Bernie love. There was a track they played that I hadn't heard before called something like If Any Gets Funked Up, It's Gonna Be You. I really dug it. Anyone know anything about George's 90's output that I should check out?

I'll just say this much. It was a good introduction to their story, but it easily should have been two hours long. George looks normal with the colorful long hair than in his doo-wop days.

I wish I could have witnessed a show back in the late 70's.

Drugs + Music= interesting masterpieces of work. They definitely weren't the only ones noted for that.

I think the PBS one.....

Just wish it was longer....

Just when you were getting into the Funkadelic story, it went elsewhere...

Something I notice also, at one time, it look as if the original Parliaments were being interviewed in the same barbershop like area, as George was....

Why were they seperated???hmmm

Have to look again to make sure....

The film maker (Yvonne Smith) said she felt giving P-Funk one hour was "injustice", but she said she had to go with the available resources (and money) put in the project to get it for just one hour. She also said there was some difficulty with the music clearances also (Westbound - Warners - Polygram)..but nonetheless, she did an amazing job.

Fantastic show..Highlights:

1) Never before seen footage of early 70's Funkadelic. George blasted out of his mind wearing makeup.

2) Interviews w/ the Funk Mob members you normally don't hear from..Boogie, Calvin, Fuzzy, Grady, Jeanette Washington (who still looks amazing), Dawn Silva, Pedro, Overton, Stozo.

3) The Rick James clips on his thoughts about P
.

i know! rick being on there was def.a plus, i was very shocked to see him. he looked good.

That's valid, player. Fishbone and even more so, Weapon of Choice opinions are waaaay more valid than some knuckleheaded, non-playing ass cat who don't have sense enough to buy pants that fit. How in the fuck can u run away from the police when u trying to hold up your pants?

I wish it had been 2 hours long because it was great. All the never before seen footage was the best part plus some behind the scene facts that I didn't know.

They outlined the whole Pfunk trip really well. I taped it but I emailed PBS to say how great it was. If they get enough of a repsonse they probably will re-air it and release a video.

The animation and narration by Eddie Griffin was a nice touch without taking away from the most important part...the music.

In an interview I read Yvonne Smith did say she regretted not being able to talk to Prince for the show...typical rolleyes. She also said she wanted to make it longer but didn't have the budget.

Email PBS y'all and let 'em know we want the funk.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
