Archie Whitewater - any info on them? About 5 years ago in LA I dug up this album by a group called "Archie Whitewater" on Cadet records. A buddy of mine also has it, but thats it. I have DJed the record all over the world and people always love that shit. but nobody is familiar with them. they are a mainly white jazz-rock orientated group. but EXTREMELY soulful and they sound black. it was their only album and it was released in 1970. to this day it has not been reissued (as far as I know).
the only quote I ever found on them was by their saxophone player travis jenkins: "This was also the year (1968) that I started recording with a jazz-rock-fusion group called Archie Whitewater (after my adopted Cherokee name). We got a deal with Robert Stigwood (RSO) out of London, who managed Eric Clapton and the Bee Gees and who convinced Chess Records to record us. Our first album was finished and released, but soon afterward Chess was bought out by the Rolling Stones and we were shelved. The second album with Bob Mann on guitar (now with James Taylor) and Monty Waters on alto sax was never released, but we did play opposite Tony Williams' Lifetime with John McLaughlin." does anybody have more info on this fantastic group "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany" ![]()

I know you mean well, but of all the musical genres to bring up that "the band is white but sounds black"...
Sorry, it's just jazz was one of the first truly unsegregated art forms in America. Outside of that, here's this: http://google.yahoo.com/b...&hc=0&hs=0 Although you probably already have searched there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Sorry, it's just jazz was one of the first truly unsegregated art forms in America. thanx for the link. fact is, first time I heard archie whitewater I did think they were black. I do not want to sound racist, has nothing to do with it. but jazz is not truly unsegregated. until the 1940s it was extremely rare that black and white musicians would play together. benny goodman was one of the first whites to hire blacks. however, its was also the blacks who refused to play with whites, simply because from the very beginning white people tried to steal jazz: the first jazz song ever recorded was by the original dixieland jazz band (I think that was their name) in 1917. later the white media tried to market a man with the last nem whiteman as the king of swing (1920s). when I said that archie whitewater sound black I was trying to say that they did NOT sound like all those white rock groups like chicago, cream etc who had some jazz influences. archie whitewater sound more like mandrill. jsut wanted to set that straight. ;- "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany" ![]()
