Vagina says oh don't we All think we KNOW HIM? How the Hell Do You KNOW UNLESS YOU ASK HIM??? DAH! This has nothing to do with POWER this has to do with What is DUE Him and What he Rightfully DESERVES!!! HE is just not RESPECTED ENOUGH!!!

Vagina you are right!! I stay frustrated at the industry and at MTV VH1 and yes even BET because so many times they refuse to give him his due credit and respect and he has changed the whole face of music as we know it. So many artists they jack off wouldn't be shit if he hadn't come along and to not even aknowledge that is just plain wack for loss of better adjectives. Even if he says he doesn't want these things he still deserves them and that is just that. For his fams there should be something to show appreciation for what he has done for music and yes even films! Purple Rain had a huge impact on the industry. Listen we need to give the man his flowers while he is living!!!

Well, they gave Ozzy one. Why shouldn't they give Prince one?

Becauusa, hee don ah haav ah biga TV show, movie, album to promote!

THAT is why "Stars" GET a star, when they are in need to PROMOTE something, but not always. I think the media covers those that are promoting a big release.

Now recently a star was given to a famous latin music star Juan Gabriel, who's slightly older than Prince so he's been around a long time in the limelight.

I'm not sure and didn't hear of any big release to promote for him. He actually is really respected and loved and his music has touched many an perhaps they gave it to him to for those reasons.

Check out his fan site: http://www.juangabriel.com.mx/ look don't skip the Flash intro and you'll see pics of his star event. Much love from his fans.

Here's a site with info on the Walk of Fame stars:
http://www.seeing-stars.c...ings.shtml

The following celebrities will get their stars on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002:

Sandra Bullock, Al Pacino, Regis Philbin, Amy Grant, Rodney Dangerfield, Martin Landau, Rose Marie, Queen, Fabian, Ozzy Osbourne, KC and the Sunshine Band, Juan Gabriel, Jack LaLanne and producer Dino De Laurentiis.

As you can see it's a mixed bag. Glad to see Al (my all time favorite actor!), Rodney (Finally!), Queen and KC getting a star!

To the more narrowminded, it puts him in the place of all of the other legends that have had stars before him and reminds them that he is indeed great.

To the ignorant, it reminds them that Prince is still around and that maybe he's still making good music.

some questions:
why is a star on hollywood blvd important?
what does it represent to you?
why does it represent what it does to you?

Most every thread here gets the same response from betra...

"what does it matter 2 u
how does this affect u..." etc...

y do u bother coming here, betra? what does it matter 2 u what peeps post? y does it represent what it does 2 u? evil

Can you answer the questions?

I don't understand why people associate importance with awards and a star on hollywood blvd as prestige. I have nothing against the topic. But why are stars important? Will they give some authority or some credibility to Prince to the masses that his music hasn't already? Saying he 'deserves' it automatically lends some credibility to a star on hollywood blvd with his name on it, doesn't it? So what makes having one special? Some crusty old farts decide to add Prince to add to the touristy and mainstream appeal of hollywood blvd...and this is meant to be honourable and prestigious?

On a related subject, is Prince in the rock and roll hall of fame?

By the way I think he deserves a star too.

I agree Prince definately deserves a star. I am sure Prince would not care for the ceremony that goes along with it. I am sure all the music played in it would be from the 80s or early 90s. His new music wouldn't be considered. And isn't that the most important to Prince?

Prince doesn't have a star on HOllywood Blvd because Prince doesn't WANT one. I think he said so himself (don't quote me on that) Besides, you all should know how Prince feels about "idolatry". A big ceremony for a star on the walk of fame is nothing BUT idolatry, and Prince wouldn't go for that, even if he DOES deserve it. (which he does)

rolleyes U aint his mom, u dont know how he feels. Im sure he'd secretively eat it up...even if he didnt show up at the ceremony. lol

But maybe its a good idea 4 him not 2 get a star...u dont want wierdos like me humping a block of concrete. confused

Stars on Hollywood Blvd are now not awards of gifts, they are paid for by the film or record company to promote the artist. Considering Prince is not in favour with WB, I think it will be a long time before he gets one, by that time the Blvd will be full on both sides.

That's correct. Someone in the thread earlier said there is a fee of about $4,000 that has to be paid. Prince doesn't have a record or film company to pay that bill.

Maybe the members of the NPGMC will start a fundraising drive to get the $4,000. An organizer of the effort could ask each member to donate x amount, maybe $20 per person and see how that goes.

Vagina, why are you so obesessed with that stupid star? I used to live in LA, right of Hollywood Boulevard, and I always wondered why it would make people proud if some strangers walk over them every day. no seriously, that star is no big deal since its no HONEST reward to honor an artists work. there's tons of people with a star about whom I truly wonder who the fuck they are and why they do have that star. I wouldnt want Prince to be among them.
Its the music that counts, you need to have that star in your soul, not in a piece of concrete. its doesnt mean shit. and especially over here in europe it wont impress anybody. its like the oscar. that award is given to people who are associated either with a large commercial success or who are part of a deal (I vote for you, next year you vote for me). but the oscar does not say anything about the true quality of a movie. there's tons of brilliant underground flicks who will never get a chance and who dont care.
just like I dont care for that star in hollywood. and I'm sure prince doesnt either. get over it. instead of investing in that you should better spend that money on music. THEN you are doing the artists a favour. and yourself as well

The way I remember it is...in 1993,the Controversy fanzine (which was the "official" Prince-endorsed fan magazine back then) started a campaign to get Prince a star. They collected the money, sent it in,but the folks in charge said "No way!".USA Today reported that they felt Prince was "too weird" to receive a star.Around this time,Prince was going around saying his name wasn't "Prince",remember.

Michael Jackson received his star in 1984.Why wasn't Prince considered for a star back then, when he was also red-hot? Not that any of this matters,of course.

You make a good point BUT, contrary to popular opinion, awards DO matter to an artist.Prince is usually at any award show that is presenting him with an award. He was there to pick up that Oscar that you claim is not that important.

I usually hate to sound like I'm obsessed with Prince even though I am. But yes it is important becauxe a lot of his fams claim they love and appreciate the man for what he has done for music and even the impact he has had on our lives but we never care when it is time to show it! Yes it does matter for this man to know what he means to all of us who listen and are moved by all the great music he has given us for over 20 years! I guarantee you you will never hear a MJ or Elvis fan declining the opportunity to praise their musical heroes but here at Prince.org we always sit around and say who cares? And we use stupid excuses like "he probably wouldn't even show up" "he probably doesn't care" and my personal favorite "why should we care?" That is why he doesn't have the shit cause his own so called fams don't really give a damn. I practice what I preach I call all my local radio stations and give them hell for not playing enough of his music because he means that much to me whether he knows it or cares or not. and if some of you were true fams like you say it would make you proud to see his name up there with some of these fuckers who haven't contributed 1/2 the shit he has over the years.

So, he's not above receiving "honors" when given...so, ask urself, y does this piss u off so?

Piss me off? No, just trying to see the logic in automatically associating every award someone receives with prestige. As for Prince not being above accepting awards; he's always maintainted that they're essentially useless, but sure...to be seen, to be heard, to stroke ego, to sell more, to not offend those handing it out, I guess...they are accepted. This goes in line with what the true purpose behind awards are. A pat on the back from the industry to promote itself.
