I wanted to get "Plastic Ono Band" and "Imagine" soon.... now should I get this instead? Or would I miss something essential?

I got the Lennon box set that came out a while ago. It is THE definitive Lennon collection. It contains a fancy booklet, too. I just wish it was remastered, etc.

Sdldawn always holds it down on Beatles/former Beatles releases. This set looks very interesting, I will have to check it out.

Honestly.. I'd still get Plastic Ono Band (The remastered version) Its one of those "no filler" type albums.. tracks like "Well Well Well" are so rockish.. I would have for you to miss out on this album.. make sure u get it. And I think pretty much the best stuff that was on "Imagine" is on these definitive lennon set.. ps. I also heard this thing was like 15 bucks at circuit city.. maybe even cheaper.. or somewhere around that this week.. [Edited 10/6/05 10:54am]

Pitchforkmedia gave this review a 8.0 out of 10
and I believe allmusic gave it a 4 out of 5 Guess this is the set to get if u wanted the.. "Best" so to speak songs of his solo career.. I guess you could say the songs that withstand time.. they age very nicely..

The impact of the album is lost a bit when you take the songs out of context. But this compilation looks a bit funner than Plastic Ono Band. Imagine is great, too, but I agree, not quite as essential as a whole. Check this song out at:

Yep, this ain't the first time they done this to ole lennon. I find his solo work overated. And "imagine" is so played out it ain't funny. I do love "jealous guy" though. And roxy's cover ain't as good.

I find his solo work overated. I don't, I just own those songs and can get other box sets burned from my pals. I do agree that his stuff wears thin in a box set. A Macca box set would look better.
