The Mystical Lure Of Lady T - Teena Marie We have to have an appreciation post for this woman. A multi-instrumentalist with plush orchestrated torch ballads of love lost and gained.
Funk anthems with pulsating base lines and infectious rythym guitars. The woman had the balls to do a metal album in 86. We can't celebrate the genius of her work enough. Just the complexity of "Shadow Boxing" and "Batucada Suite" and many more show that this woman is more overdue for her praise

The first 4 songs on the "Emerald City" Album are metal. "You so Heavy"has Stevie Ray Vaughn playing on it.

Portuguese Love was one of the first songs that I ever remember hearing as a child. I have been listening to alot of Teena lately. She is one of the most influential artists in terms of what alot of younger female artists are doing these days but doesnt get enough props. Wouldnt it be AMAZING for her and Prince to do a song together? Why hasnt this happened yet?

"Mystical lure" is just another way to say crazy ass loon. She makes good music, but she's far from ignored in this forum. She comes up on a continuous basis here.

I'm refering to her poetic lyrics and her mysticim with her poetry. I know she's not ignored in this forum and I think she should continue to be acknowledge as much as possible. In no way would I refer to anything as crazy ass loon, so all of that was totally unecessary

Why are so many of you sleeping on this album,or were reluctant to buy it in the first place? Has today's R&B music declined so much that we don't even expect our Old School artists to deliver a decent album? Trust me,it is a fantastic CD.Songs like "Makaveli Never Lies","I'm Still In Love","Honey Call","Baby I'm Your Fiend" and "My Body's Hungry" are top-notch.There are only two songs here that I skip over,"The Macking Game" and "Off The Chain"....the two most hip-hop sounding tracks.Teena fares better when she leaves hip-hop alone, and sticks to her tried-and-true formula. Calhoun....you better unwrap that CD and play it...NOW! [Edited 10/4/05 4:50am]
