The Dylan doc finally made me get off my butt and order the last few albums I don't have on disc from his classic era:

I already had these on vinyl, but I keep my 33 1/3s in storage these days, so I don't have quick access to them.

And last night I made an impulse purchase of the Can 2 dvd/1 cd set:

I don't know if I'll play this much, but I'm pretty happy that I stumbled across it, though it wasn't cheap...

What do you think? I'm actually not too crazy about that lp overall, but Transona 5 is probably my favourite Stereolab song, maybe 2nd to Jenny Ondioline.

[Bjork and Sigur Ros were here]

You just now got your Bjork CD in the mail?

I got the Sigur Ros album last weekend - I haven't listened to the whole thing yet because I haven't had time to listen to it at home, and apparently the CD is copy protected, so I can't load it on my mp3 player (LAME).

Pretty packaging, though. thumbs up!

my first reaction is overwhelming agreement, but i'm going to wait until i see the film before i pass judgment. the visuals might put the music into context - i'm sure i wouldn't enjoy the jonathan bepler soundtracks to matthew barney's cremaster films if i hadn't seen the movies first, so maybe there's hope for this bjork project. except for that 11 minute track of the eskimo guy sitting on the john. that won't be ending up on any 'best-of' comps i'll be burning in the near future. lol

still and all, i think there are a couple of salvageable bjork tracks on the CD. generally speaking, i think the only reason it was released at all was for fans that go nuts for anything bjork produces. i think there's a reason it still hasn't been released in the states...

hmmm

I have been a music ban for a couple weeks again (except for Takk by Sigur Ros). I may have to hit the store today though and end that ban smile

Gangsta will be happy to know that after neglecting New Order's latest for months I finally pulled it off the shelf this week and gave it some time. GOOD STUFF.

Cool, I'd be interested in your opinion of the film (altho I've already heard it's a drag) and if the music suits, but the soundtrack alone is truly awful. No argument. lol

i LOVED the cremaster cycle, though i will admit it took a lot of patience to sit through parts of cremaster 2 and 3...you have to put your mind in a certain place to enjoy his films. you can't go in thinking that you're going to see movies, and you have to get in the mindset that you're watching art that just happens to be on film. it's filmed sculpture. it's filmed design. it's the use of colors and shapes and textures. and digested in the proper way, what he does is absolutely brilliant.

all of that said, his new film could very well suck for all i know. but i'm excited to find out...

And live recordings by Meshell NdegéOcello, The Family and Wendy & Lisa, as offered to me by sweet friends. Also a Lowlands live recording of Franz Ferdinand, lots of 80's stuff (singles) and rediscovering For The Record by Barbra Streisand.

Ooh, today I got a compilation album of live recordings of the 2004 Hurricane Festival. On ONE cd;

PJ Harvey
Franz Ferdinand
Graham Coxon
Placebo
The Hives
David Bowie
Die Fantastischen Vier
The Cure
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

And I forgot I got Gidon Kremer & Horacio Ferrer's Maria de Buenos Aires. If you're into Argentine tango.

Review by Adam Greenberg
A rendition of a tango operita, commissioned by the Argentinian Ministry of Culture (this rendition anyway), was revived by violinist Gidon Kremer, who had such a love for the original LPs from Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer that he wanted to recreate the music. Ferrer was kept on as El Duende (the Goblin) — the role that he created when he wrote the libretto thirty years earlier. Regrettably, Piazzolla had passed on prior to the remake. Nonetheless, the arrangements and orchestrations are remarkable. The suffering and the passion of Maria (the main character in the show) are perfectly portrayed by the tango. The music changes forms as her character progresses, taking on traditional tangos, modern tangos, milongas, waltzes, and other styles to reflect changes in Maria. The music is always well-composed. This is an opera for the display of modern music, and the tango of Piazzolla is modern music at its finest.

I didn't order it. I found it in a store in Detroit a few weeks back.

And I'm totally loving the new Sigur Ros. It's so Vespertine!
