i don't really see any band representing the 00's right now... although its hard to say half-way through.

But if I had to pick one, I guess I would go with Coldplay, even though I think they are hugely overrated. They seem to have captured the media attention for some reason this decade in a way no other band has, and their sales have been strong.

The reason I say Coldplay.. is because of how huge the became on such short notice.. and their flame isnt anywhere near the end... they could go on like this for another album.. maybe two.. and its well into 2005.. they started in 2000, been going mighty strong ever since...

i agree.. really i can't see anybody else out there that is a fairly recent band that will sustain the level of commercial success as coldplay

When Chris Martin is in his interviews he wants to conjur out the idea that this X&Y will the be the last Coldplay album.. but I can see where it will the road has extended quite a bit for one more.. if he is planning on stopping anytime soon.. he should wait a couple or years which will be around (2008) give of take.. and release one more.

Robbie Williams?

Coldplay certainly is up there I guess

But it seems 2 me that the most succesful so far are the rappers and hip hoppers like Eminem, 50 cent et al they are filling their pockets with gold these days... sigh

Oh yeah thanx Huey lol

then I'd guess I'd have to go with Coldplay, they seem to be as huge as U2...

Because I think most'00 music sucks, I think all of the bands mentioned in this thread (with the possible exception of Coldplay) are exceptions to, rather than representations of, the rule.

Coldplay certainly has the potential to be to the 00's what U2 was to the 80s and REM or Nirvana were to the 90s. They're a great band. With that said, I wasn't exactly doing jumping jacks and cartwheels over X and Y. Not that it's bad, it's just WAY to soft. Maybe I just need to listen to it a bit more. Overrated? Maybe. I think they still need to make that ONE album that's going to be their ultimate classic. And I have a feeling that their next album could be it.

From my point of view, Green Day are set to be the next BIG rock icons of this decade, and Im praying that The Killers will last as well. Their Hot Fuss album was too good for them to just fizzle out.
