props to Hall & Oats

those are some silky controlled vocals on their many well crafted/composed hits. Throw your tomatoes! I still like it.

after repeated listenings, I'm surprised to find 'Say it isn't so" being an emotional dramatic piece of pop. I like the change of mood when the chorus comes.

I was playing a show last night with my band. My odd neighbor shows up during my break and says "Darryl Hall is at my restaurant right now. I'm going to put you on the phone with him in a few minutes." I thought "well, I think I'm going to be busy in a few minutes." So we started our next set and my neighbor was gone five minutes later.

What does it all mean?

It's a collection of R&B cover songs that inspired them.It was released last year and includes songs like...

"I'll Be Around" (the Spinners classic)
"Use Ta Be My Girl" (the Ojays classic)
"Ooh Child" (the Five Stairsteps classic)
"Love T.K.O." (the Teddy Pendergrass classic)
"I Can Dream About You" (the Dan Hartman classic)
"Rock Steady" (the Aretha Franklin classic)
"Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" (the Dramatics classic)

and they even wrote three new songs. The liner notes are very interesting,as they explain why they chose to cover each song.

Hall And Oates are one of my favourite all time acts. I know a lot of people don't admit to liking them or like them in an ironic way but some of their songs are stone cold classics. Abandoned Luncheonette is one of my Top 10 all time fave albums.

Quite the lyricists...

In the moonlite
Under startlite
Songs old as the night are what I’ve been dreaming of
Everybody’s hard as iron
Locked in a modern world
Dreams are make of a different stuff

I believe love will always be the same
Ways and means are the parts subject to change
M-e-t-h-o-d-o-f-l-o-v-e
It’s a method of modern love

I can call you
Got your number
Share my life with you a thousand miles away
If you’ve hurt me
I haven’t shown it
Time’s too tight to fight
And we’re never face to face
Style is timeless and fashion’s only now
We’ve got the ways no one needs to show us how
Occupy Alphabet Street!
