If you like E,W&F you will love this album...

4 real- I´m talkin´bout Paulinho da Costa´s first album: "HAPPY PEOPLE".
I´m telling you- if you like E,W & F "ALL `N ALL" album (especially the strong brazillian influence on it), you will appreciate Paulinhos debut. i bet you will!

Good call! I listened to this album for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Paulinho has played on so many other people's albums, so it was good to hear his own work. Some of the album sounds a little typical of that genre, but on the whole it's a good set. You're right - it's a lot like an EWF album. I especially like the last track, Put Your Mind on Vacation. Also kinda sounds like he was influenced by Rod Temperton.

Damn, Rip. I'm not hip to this, so, it's cool that the thread was ran. It's cool that you're hip to it though. Thanx for breaking it down.

smile I am only familiar with it, because it came up as a recommendation based on my rankings of other albums through Yahoo. I knew his name as a session musician, but didn't know he had his own album.

Thanks, RipHer2Shreds! Man, I used to hear this album played on WHUR here in DC back in '79, but at the time, I could never remember the name of his album!

BTW, that Earth Wind and Fire sound is direct...both Philip Bailey and Al McKay are on this album!

When I heard the first track "Deja Vu" I thought the singer sounded like P.Bailey- but he isn´t credited on the album.
the best tracks for me are the instrumentals:"Love Till The End Of Time", "Dreamflow" and "Happy People"

Yeah, I thought that was him back then, but I wasn't sure at the time...I didn't even know this was out on CD! Thanks for reminding me, urbanfox!

The EW&F connection makes sense as he's probably played on most of their records since All In All.

And he indeed has a prolific credit history as a percussionist.
