MPLS orgers: Atmosphere, Slug, Rhymesayers, etc

For a site that is not only Prince oriented, but naturally very Minneapolis oriented, I'm surprised I never heard anyone mention the music of Slug `n them.

hmmm Are they underground in their own hometown?

I thnk me and some other orgers mentioned them a long time ago, I guess it was in a thread where I sort of "defended" Prince using rappers like Scrap D and Tony M in his music. Not that I really like them, but I said that at least he was supporting some local rappers and them someone mentioned Atnosphere.
I´m not really into them though...I once saw them in London years ago....good, but not really my thing. I´m a sentimental hip hop head, nostalgic and old and reminiscing about the good old old school days.like 1985-86 up until the mid nineties. lol

they're underground, but they're VERY well-known 'round here. rhymesayers usually do all-ages shows at first ave. all the time...and they're always sold out, too. nod

there was a week-long hip-hop festival over at first ave. about a month or two ago, and those guys were a big part of it.

funny thing is, they are too. I just went to an Atmosphere show on Wednesday and all the DJ played before and after the show was non-stop old school 1986-1989 rap cuts.

Atmosphere played 7 sold out shows in a row not too long ago, so yeah, they're big here. The "Minneapolis sound" right now is indie rock and hip hop.

I don't know the other two, but I've heard a few of Atmosphere's cuts. The paper did a big write-up on him a few months back talking about how they're going to be the next big thing out of Minneapolis. We'll see.

It's all synonymous, really. Rhymesayers is the crew. Atmosphere is comprised of producer Ant and rapper Slug.

I've seen Atmosphere live maybe 5-6 times, and I've always found Slug & crew to be even more boring than they are on record. I think they're very, very overrated. Bland beats, lazy flow, etc. Give me Mos Def or Blackalicious any day!

I feel like I have, but I'm not quite sure. It was about 2-3 years ago when I caught all these shows, if that makes a difference. Should I check them out?
