Bring Back Color Me Badd

Whatever happened to these a capella sing, "New Jack City" soundtracking, Ice Cube video directing bastards!

Scoff if you want. Mock me if you feel the need. But Color Me Badd was a pretty damn good group there for awhile. Oh, everyone has buyer's remorse now. No one wants to admit to owning their debut "CMB" and even less would own up to the non-remix follow up "Time and Chance". But if you don't own these two albums it is entirely your loss. CMB was a solid group whose members could SING, a skill lost on many acts of that time and, for that matter, the time we're in now.

CMB was no NKOTB. CMB had skills! The Oklahoma City quartet burst onto the scene with their hit "I Wanna Sex You Up" which, whether you admit it or not, you know you had that song jamming out of your car stereos back in the 91. Follow up singles "I Adore Mi Amore" and "All 4 Love" charted on the pop and r and b charts. A remix album was released a few months later and then they released the very underrated "Time and Chance" in 1992. "T and C" got Ice Cube to direct the leadoff video for the title track and the second single, the wonderfully poppy "Choose" made Top 20. The project petered out after that and subsequent albums were not as strong. The band just kind of disappeared in the mid-90's and no reunion that I'm aware of has come about.

I really liked "Time and Chance" and thought it was a pretty brave move for the group. It was less poppy than "CMB" but there are some very nice ballads and mid-tempo numbers on the CD. Whether you think the group sucked or not, I think a lot of people would enjoy "Time and Chance" more than they would expect going in. It's all about preconceptions, people. Free your mind and your ass will follow!

Bring them back!

No, I can't, I mustn't. I am answering to a higher calling. The pop gods are working through me to rescue bands like CMB from obscurity.

I'll bite. I owned "CMB" and it was one of my favorite albums back in the day. There were a lot of good songs on there and the production was real good too. They were definitely better than the New Hairs On My Cock. lol

Oh they've been punished all right. A decade of banishment from pop culture. It is time for redemption.

Yes...see how easy it is to admit that they weren't that bad. Others will follow.

So far we've had:
Donna Summer (not so bad and she's sexy)
Hammer (A joke that's only tolerable on VH1 BEHIND THE SCENES)
and now COLOR ME BADD (absolutely dreadful, plus they have bad hairstyles)

U remind me of myself gottaletitgo. Iam sure i did a thread about color be badd a while back.

"time and chance" is a proper flesh out album. Very long too. I love "choose" and "in the sunshine". and the last acoustic track is nice too called "i remember".

Off the first album, i love most the tracks, in particular "roll the dice" and "urdaoneiwannalove" or whatever its called.

remix album had a good remix of the track "color me badd". I got the homevideo somewhere. I can sing the spanish bit in "j' ador me amor".

Plus the song "time and chance"? The harmony sounds like the bee gees somewhat?

Fellow appreciater of good music! "Choose" and "Sunshine" are fine songs...also dig "Close to Heaven" and "Roseanna's Little Sister" or whatever it's called.

Good songs you mention on "CMB" too.

Wasn't Kenny G in Color Me Badd? Or a guy that looked like him? They also had a token black guy, a guy with a permanent 5 o'clock shadow and some guy that squinted all the time. Or am I thinking of another band? "Dream on....dream away..."

Should I make a dedication thread to the artistc merits of Expose', my high school crushes along with Susannah Hoffs from The Bangles?

Come Go With Me was one of my favorite songs.

As for CMB, sorry folks, let sleeping dogs lie.

Okay, What do I have to lose? I'll admit it. I liked "I Wanna Sex You Up" when it came out. And I saw them in concert at the Target Center when they opened up for Bell Biv Devoe and LL Cool J. But let's just say that my musical tastes have evolved as I've gotten older (Thank God!) Justin Timberlake credited them as an inspiration for N'Sync. So did New Kids On the Block. Thank you Color Me Badd mad mad mad

Resistence is strong in you. You would feel a lot better if you just broke out the CMB posters and tshirts you have in a locked trunk in your attic.

In completely related news, there are 779,000 sites for chart toppers, 12.7 million for hitmakers, and 238,000 for saviors of music. Not many of these have anything to do with CMB but I'm sure it's a lot of them.

I used to change the words to "I Wanna Sex You Up" to "I'm homo-sex-u-al".

That's all I've got to say on the matter.
