This Woman's work Appreciation Thread!

A masterpiece! Been listening 2 it in repeat for an hour!

Pray God you can cope.
I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man,
Now his part is over.
Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things I should've said,
That I never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things I should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,
Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.
Give them back to me.
Give me that little kiss.
Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That were never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things that you needed from me.
All the things that you wanted for me.
All the things that I should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.
Just make it go away now.

I adore this song, just hearing the opening few seconds just sends shivers all through my body and it's on at the moment. Radio 2 played T.W.W. just after the Madrid bombing story broke and it just transports me to an emotional place whenever I hear it...a strange mixture of sadness, joy, being fragile and strong all at the same time- WOW x

I am ashamed and embarassed to say that I have never heard the original version by Tori Amos.

Until about a year ago, I thought Maxwell created this song. sad

Nevertheless, I stop cold in my tracks whenever I hear Maxwell's version and am always pushed to the verge of tears.

especially toward the end when these lines are repeated: All the things I should've said that I never said/ All the things we should've done, That we never did. cry

His voice and the fact this he's an actual male electrifies this song for me.

I've read of course that Tori created this from a male perspective but I've never heard whether she appreciated Maxwell's version.

For those who've heard both ... am I really missing out not hearing Tori's.

If I think Maxwell's is transcendent and ethereal ... will I pass out hearing hers? smile

Are you serious ?? I know you´re kidding ! lol Or am I missing something here?
It´s by Kate Bush .
Not Tori Amos.

Thank you. I'm so not kidding. That's how little I know about the original song. razz Damn. I can't believe I just embarrassed myself with that ignorant mistake.

Anyway... I saw a reference to Tori beneath that Kate pic and got confused. biggrin

You should definitely hear Kate´s version, it´s off her Sensual World album and I´m pretty sure you´ll also like a lot of other songs from that album.
One of my favorites is The Fog, the way it builds up and the atmophere it gives you are incredible.
Another good one is A Deeper Understanding, about loneliness and people spending time in front of their computers...the lyrics of Prince´s My Computer reminded me of this song when I heard it.

I on the other hand haven´t heard Tori´s version yet.

Maxwell´s version is great. I like his album version but his rendition for MTV Unplugged was incredible.

The Fog or The Morning Fog? ( The light begin to bleed..) smile
She's Having a Baby (1988)Directed by John Hughes starring Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern is not a very interesting movie imo, 80s outdated, but at the end you can hear TWW on a birth's scene, it's very emotionnal cry but it makes you feel good at the same time..

No, I was talking about The Fog, it´s on her Sensual World album.

By the way, how do you guys interpret This Woman´s Work ?

I used to think it´s about birth, life, love and death ...right ?

Look. It all started as a confusion
SynthiaRose believed it was a Tori Amos song.
As Mike has a Tori quote as his sig it all added to the confusion

I'm know I'm going to get in trouble for this one,but when I listen to The Sensual World,I usually skip this one.
There are so many Kate songs I'd rather hear.
I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos
