guns'n'roses vs nirvana, who remembers this?

people, i just came across this little catfight between axl and kurt, i found an interview with kurt talking about axl, about how kurt hated axl and guns'n'roses and that fight they got into at the 1992 mtv awards. anyway i got questions as i wasnt around at the time

1. who remebers it, and what are your opinons on it, like whos side are/were you on?

2. what are your opnions on axl?

and

3. whos music do you think is ultimately better out of the two?

my answers on this is with the knowledge that i know is i think kurt went a little far with his comments on axl and especially the rest of the group, kurt must have be been on drugs when he said it as no one in there right mind could call slash an untalented piece of shit. i also dont believe axl was racist or a homophobe, otherwise why the hell would he play in a band with slash?!?!? and he featured blacks in some of his filmclips, which mighten sound like much but if you were racist why would you even bother? also he did lots of duets with gays such as elton john (an interesting story is kurt spat on the piano of the performance for 'november rain' at the 1992 music awards thinking it was axls piano but it turned out to be eltons instead) and freddie mercurey, also he did alot of questionable things with slash on stage. he might be sexist as people say though, as i have heard about him beating his wifes and the cover of that album with the girl just being raped is a little hmmm

personally axl is one of the sexiest men i have ever seen and i think he has a great unique voice, although i just discovered guns'n'roses a couple of months ago so im still learning about axls personality and he does seem like a bit of a jerk. he does have some pretty deep personal problems and i do know he had a messed up child hood, i actually feel quite sorry for him.

on whos music i like better, i'll go with guns n roses as i think im more into metal as a genre and slash is a fucking genius at the guitar, he truely made me appreciate that instrument, and i cant quite get into grunge as much, but i do love alot of nirvanas songs they just dont connect to me like the gunners songs do.

also i dont think any nirvana song could compete with 'november rain' especially the guitar solo. that song is quite simply one of the best songs of all time

imo, at the time the feud seemed like a "changing of the guard" moment. G&R had risen to megaband status while Nirvana was the next big thing and everyone knew it, especially Axl.

Basically G&R had gotten so huge that they'd lost their "street cred". Once you've got Axl performing with Elton John and a freaking orchestra in the background, good music or not you're playing to a different crowd. Nirvana appealed to a rejection of the overblown production that G&R was excelling at and the kids were eating it up.

When it was all over G&R basically collapsed under its own weight and Nirvana was left to pick up the pieces and define rock in the 90's. I'm a fan of both groups so I don't really get into who was better than who.

I seem to remember Guns & Roses challenged Nirvana to a "rumble" at the VMA's. Courtney was taunting him, and he approached and told Kurt to "shut his bitch up," to which Kurt replied "Shut up bitch!"

Axl loved Nirvana in the beginning, it was Kurt who saw Axl as an outdated primadonna neanderthal.

I like Guns' music, but it's easy to see why anyone would hate them or Axl. He seems more disturbed than Kurt, which is saying a lot.

Nirvana were much more than GNR ever was. GNR had one good album - Appetite. After that it was awful. Nirvana blew all poser Hair metal bands away, and rightly so.

I agree. GNR can't compare to Nirvana, besides the fact that they don't make the same kind of rock.

Nirvana is musically ridiculous when compared to Guns N Roses. No contest.
It's like comparing Sex Pistols with Rolling Stones.

Maybe i am going to far, Nirvana has some cool songs, but the reason of their sucess is mroe charisma than anything else. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are in the same league as Guns N Roses. Not nirvana.

The solo carreer of Izzy Stradlin is better than Nirvana's discography.

And last thing. Guns N Roses used to play PRINCE (among other cool bands) before the shows.

I read this in a Duff Mackagan's interview. (About Prince). He himself covered Bambi.

I'm not old enough to remember the rivalry through anything but vague memories of entertainment reports.

I love both bands, but I can see why certain people would dislike either one. However, there's no way to make a "who's better?" argument. Their styles of music and public personae were too different to make a decent comparison, for good or bad.
