80's Tune of the Day: "Coming Home" by Peter Schilling

Anybody remember this song from the 80's? heart this song especially the "4-3-2-1" and the chorus part, it's just very catchy. It's the kind of song that sticks in your head after you've heard it.

Major Tom - Coming Home

Standing there alone
The ship is waiting
All systems are go
Are you sure?
Control is not convinced
But the computer
Has the evidence
"No need to abort"
The countdown starts

Watching in a trance
The crew is certain
Nothing left to chance
All is working
Trying to relax
Up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink"
Jokes Major Tom
The count goes on

CHORUS:
4...3...2...1...
Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Calling calling home...

Second stage is cut
We're now in orbit
Stabilizers up
Running perfect
Starting to collect
Requested data
What will it affect
When all is done
Thinks Major Tom

Back at ground control
There is a problem
Go to rockets full
Not responding
"Hello Major Tom
Are you receiving
Turn the thrusters on
We're standing by"
There's no reply

CHORUS

Across the stratosphere
A final message
"Give my wife my love"
Then nothing more

Far beneath the ship
The world is mourning
They don't realize
He's alive
No one understands
But Major Tom sees
Now the life commands
This is my home
I'm coming home

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming home...

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming home...

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming coming home...
Home.....
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I know the song well. Some days I think it's irritating as all hell. Others, I kinda like it. I wonder what Bowie fanatics think of it...?

nod On the same token, I didn't know that there was a German version of this song. Kind of like that other song "99 Red Balloons" or "99 Luftballoons", which also had an English and a German version. smile

yep, I remebmer it, it was played on Casey Kazom's AT 40 (which aired on OE3 during those years) but in the normal radio shows I think the Engllish version was hardly ever played around here, at least much less then 99 red ballons
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Yeah I remember Casey Kazom, I used to listen to that chartshow a lot in the mid 80s. I loved the little stories he was telling in between the songs. Those were the days when Kiss was number 2 on the US charts biggrin . It was also the first time I ever heard "A Love bizarre" lol
